Hello there.
I went and bought a PūrTone PHD-710 Speaker System
and a Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K a/v receiver today. The only problem is that the receiver only has rca inputs/outputs and a black sub out connection for a subwoofer. I can connect the speakers to the receiver though. The subwoofer is passive. It has 6 inputs/outputs (binding posts). How do I connect the subwoofer to the receiver?

Purtone Sub & Pioneer Receiver Issue

Hello there.
I went and bought a PūrTone PHD-710 Speaker System
and a Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K a/v receiver today. The only problem is that the receiver only has rca inputs/outputs and a black sub out connection for a subwoofer. I can connect the speakers to the receiver cause there are binding posts on it. The subwoofer has 6 inputs/outputs (binding posts). Does anyone know how I go about connecting the subwoofer to the receiver?

Unfortunately, their site doesn't offer manuals on-line and the product description/specs are confusing. It sounds like the speakers can be powered by either the receiver or an amp built into the sub, much like Bose systems. Does the sub not have any type of RCA input for the sub itself? Does the sub have a power cord? If so, it's not passive.

You may need to contact the company directly.

That is a very old fashioned type of speaker system and not compatible with modern AVRs. Take it back and get something more up to date and better. You might as well have it up straight, you bought a useless set of speakers for the current world.

Yeah it is very confusing. If there was a manual this situation would turn out much better. There is no amp, power cord, or RCA input built into the sub.

Can you take pictures of them, especially the connections? You'll need five posts before you can attach or link them, but you've got me interested.

According to PūrTone's support page, you can e-mail them if you have any questions about hooking them up (like AVRat mentioned).

OP listen carefully. Dump this piece of jink like a hot potato. That means fast.

This is what we are dealing with! Just look at the extent of the fraud by the MRSP.

The woofers in the mains, center, and surrounds are only 2.5" diameter! They state they go to 100 Hz and I bet that's a stretch.

They describe the mains as 5 way. A look at the driver configuration tells you that at the most they can 2.5 way. So the outfit does not know the correct nomenclature.

Similarly the surrounds are described as three way, at the most they can be 2 way. If they are anything else then it is a bigger mess than it looks.

Next the sub is passive. Modern receivers are just not designed to work with passive subs.

I suspect that the sub has a sort of misbegotten cobbled crossover to supply the woofer and other speakers.

If there was no decent instruction manual this should have been your first clue that this product is not legit.

Unfortunately you have fallen victim to fraud. You will have to see if you can unscramble the egg.

Take that speaker system back if you can find the guys who sold it to you and convince them to give you your money back. You got ripped off.

Search on "White Van Speakers" for more info.

The time to ask advice on forums like this is before you buy, not after. You might avoid costly istakes like this one.

No name, but at least a cryptic comment.:

"That wasn't an accurate assessment of the bill at all. Next time post rather than assign rep."

What bill are you talking about?

Are there 6 or 6 pairs of input posts? Most likely you have to run them like an old satelite system. From your receiver L+R speakers to input of sub L+R input, then you hook your L+R speakers up to the sub, that would be L+R output.

I was just reading the specs on these speakers and have to be honest with you I've never seen specs like that in my life. Speakers Blu Ray ready?
