Thanks! Yeah the TV I'm most interested in (at the moment) is the Samsung HL67A750 (DLP, LED light source, full 1080p)

Before anybody slams rear projection, I've been watching an InFocus IN72 (480p, DLP) on a 76" high contrast screen for about the last 2 years. Was going to go with the new InFocus X10 and a 92" screen, but my new living room is going to be tougher to control ambient light. The DLP-RP TV will be roughly the same cost if not cheaper than the X10 plus a screen. Plus I'm not interested in having a projector hanging in the middle of my living room, my old house had 12' ceilings so it was relatively out of the way, the new house has only 8-9' ceilings.

Instead I'm doing things like navigating Samsung's web site to look at the manual and find on page 15 that this DLP TV has an optical out to go to your receiver to decode the 2.0/5.1 (actually sometimes fake 6.1/7.1 if EX flags are applied) DD sent by OTA broadcasters.

I'm not slamming RP at all. Those particular Samsungs are said to have spot on colors after calibration.

Thanks! Yeah I've been browsing the manual since my last post, and looking at a couple interesting things... I think I may get a UHF-VHF combiner and run two separate antenae in the attic. Combine signals in the attic, run a booster if necessary, then run coax down to the TV.

Yeah I have not had any rainbow effect issues with my InFocus IN72, with a bigger screen and lower refresh rate than this Samsung. The LED source is the last straw, I wasn't looking forward to paying $300 for a lamp, so I traded my used IN72 (that I paid $800 for after rebate) and my 76" Da-Lite pulldown for a pair of leather la-z-boy couches. To have the lack of convergence issues, great colour, good contrast, fast motion (for my video games)...

I think it seems like a great buy! Leons has them for $2500, but by the time I'm done my work in Edmonton and get home, they might be even cheaper.

I don't have to satisfy a wifes approval, so the thicker RP vs. flat panel isn't a big deal!

/edit The one thing I don't like is where the power button/remote sensor is. I wanted to put the centre channel right in front of the TV, but it looks like I'll have to get a riser, or build one, to raise the TV above the L/C/R speakers.... I'm thinking build one out of pine and stain to match my current unit.

Just remembered another reason I want an external box.... I use my TV as a monitor only, my AVR switches between sources and I run 1 cable from the AVR to the TV only. If I use the built in TV tuner, I'll have to switch sources on the TV and on the AVR every time I switch between TV and another source.

Maybe I'm a cry baby, but I like only having to turn everything on, and switch sources on my AVR for everything...

Again, I think I'll try the built in tuner to see if I actually get decent signals in Grimsby, and if so, then I'll probably go standalone to get the benefits, or conveniences. lol

I'm going to revive this thread rather than start a new one...

After a year of paying $75 / month to Rogers cable, I'm saying no more. I've decided to get an outdoor UHF antenna and mount it in the attic of my new house. From what I've read, I should get anywhere from about 6-16 stations in the area I'm heading to. The good thing is I'll get the eastern US NFL games which means I'll get most of my patriots games!

There's a fair bit of info on this in other forums, but not so much on the audiophile end of things.

I haven't found a clear consensus of what the best (or preferred) ATSC tuner box is/are. Some of them don't even have optical outs. Is there a standard box that most people are using that has the quickest channel changes, good OSD, good guide, and good connectivity (no need for HDMI for me, RGB and SPDIF is my standard).

I'm looking forward to NOT having 300 channels to flip through, only to end up watching about 5-6 channels on a regular basis...

Now, what is funny, is that the tuner in the Mitsubishi WD-57732, is excellent.
The TV, when it's working correctly has excellent picture as well.
However, I now try to get people to walk away from this TV (and maybe DLP in general) due to the issues me and other people have had.

I have the exact same display. I've had no issues with mine. Others have have airflow and light engine issues, but (so far) I've been lucky. I use the coax out of it into my HK AVR-247. The tuner in the Mits is better than the tuner of my Dish VIP622. It's *NOT* better than the tuner in my Insignia or Philco DTA converter boxes. However, it's pretty good.

Aaron if you want to spend $100+ on a STB tuner when you don't need to, be my guest. I hit one button on the remote of my AVR (well my Universal Remote R7) to change the input. If your universal remote does macros, you only need to hit one button anyway. (Hint... Hint...)

Hmmmmmmmmm, methinks I should spend $100 on a universal remote instead of a tuner/receiver...

Now I'm getting WAY OT, but I was looking for tablet remotes before and couldn'y get what I wanted, for what I wanted to pay...
