Over powering? Under powering?

I just bought a pair of Sony SS-F6000 speakers. The specifications say: 180 Watts MAXIMUM INPUT POWER. I am currently waiting for delivery of a Sherwood RX-4109 2 channel receiver. It's specs say 2 x 105 Watts, but it doesn't say if that's peak, or RMS. Will I be OK with this combination? Both are 8 ohms.

You will be fine. Ignore speaker power ratings, they are meaningless.

I wish you'd come by before you bought the speakers. Anyway you can return them? You can do better even at 150.

Any amp can handle those things, but seriously a pair of infinity Primus speakers is cheaper and sounds way better.

And a pair of Andrew Jones Pioneers would be better than the Primus line and even cheaper still :)
