Im looking at getting a pair of nice outdoor speakers for my father for Xmas. Im only looking to spend around $100- $150max cdn. Now finding the speakers is not the real problem, what my real quesiton is, is how should he power these? He cant have wires running into the house, its to far away from the house where these will be mounted. So what are his options for powering them? Now these will be under a roof. He built a changeroom/ bar beside the pool, and i thought for xmas would be a good idea to get him some outdoor speakers for when he has friends/parties. But ive been picking my brain on how he could run a cheap reciever and cd player or maybe just use a real cheap stereo, and hook the speaker wire into one of those? Not sure on how they hold up in humidity and wet weather.

Im guessing that changing room has no electricity. If it does get a receiver out there, and your good. Or maybe a few car batteries.:)

Speaker wiring could certainly be run from the house to the pool. However, it would be impractical actually operating the system if it’s too far away. Your best bet would be a local system with the electronics located in the change room. Outdoor speakers mounted under a roof overhang should hold up well.

If you really love him you will set him up with a system like mine.

The speakers are a whole 40 bucks and have been going strong for over 4 years.

there is power in the change room yes, i was thinking of putting a cheapo reviever in there and cd player, but was just worried about moisture. is that a problem at all? and yes i was thinking of putting the speakers under the roof/over hang. Also the house is to far to change a song or cd. Change room is the best bet for sure! Also, do they really need to be outdoor speakers? or a set of bookshelves would work good so long as they are under the roof? They could also be taken down in the winter time. I think im just more worried about moisture wrecking/rusting parts.

outdoor options

imo outdoorspeakers are the way to go. wouldn't have to worry about finish on bookshelfs. concerning dress room get a refurb entry level reciever from net . possible feat. set w/sat. radio. cd players shouldn't be much of issue--good luck :D P.S. if store for any length of time could also build small cabinet for it
