mike c,

My budget for subwoofer is $2500. My requirements is that it is small and musical. My wife puts up with me and 2 beasts in the house won't cut it.

I listen to solo classical piano music, piano and violin concertos, and symphonic works. I also listen to Jazz piano, jazz trios, jazz guitar, and big band like Duke Ellington.

My wife and sons listen to classic rock, heavy metal and techno / electronica / trance music.

95% of the time is me listening to Classical, Romantic and Post-Romantic music.

HT - I like action and horror films. Plus, lots of concerts.

HT - Kids like cartoons.

HT - Wife likes chick flicks and comedy.

Room is a Living Room. 20' L x 14' W with 8' ceilings.

Sub has to be unobtrusive - Not a monster!

Thanks,

Eddie

I think I will stick with my original recommendation with the JL audio f112. Small, yet very potent. Acoustic accuracy is one of it's other strong points. The only pitfall to those subs is the price, they are salty, but it sounds like they fit into your budget.:)

Yeah, sounds like the fathom fits the bill for his needs.

What is the price of the F112 and F113? If the F113 fits the bill, I'd go for that, it will have more output.

SRP for the F112 is 2700-2800 and the F113 is 3400-3500 depending on finish. so it would all depend on the discount

Even the f112 is pushing the budget, for some reason I thought it was available for less than that. I guess I am not surprised.:)

I honestly don't think the F112 or F113 are worth that much money. Might as well get a DD-15.

I just got my Fathom F112 yesterday.......

Let me say that it will be plenty for your size room... its shaking the first floor of my house...

I didn't pay anything near MSRP

I have noticed this guy regularly auctions F112's, F113's and they go for way cheaper then list...

If I have not done so already - THANK YOU everyone for all the great suggestions. I mean it.

Warpdrv: All the best with your new Fathom F112. As my ultimate purchase date looms nearer I will more than likely get in touch with you to ask a few more questions. Enjoy it!!!

Glock mentioned the DT SuperCube I which I'll second and fits your compact requirement as well as add the DT SuperCube Reference model which is only 14" cubed. Digitalcraze.com offers it for $1400.

I agree with DefTech.... I saw the Supercube, and its compact size would lend itself well to a medium to small size room, and its got pretty good performance.

AVRat - Thanks for the clarification re: DT subs. I don't care for the Mythos line of speakers - too easy to tip over. The older BP series - with "sock" cover - looked a lot sturdier and less prone to tipping danger.

Many Thanks,

Eddie

The Mythos towers I've seen had sturdy bases on them, and they didn't look like they would tip over too easily.

GlocksRock:

One of my sons backfisted the upper side of the Mythos cabinet and I caught it halfway through its descent. Both boys are decorated Tournament of Champions Multiple Discipline Winners in their Mixed Martial Arts Dojo. A sturdy hefty cabinet is essential.
