optical digital cable types?

I was curious if there are different types of cable ends for optical digital cables. I bought some AR optical digital cables and they don't seem to fit in either the receiver or DVR. They fit in the hole but won't lock in, they just seem to fall out. The cables are labeled toslink 2 toslink. This is a brand new Pioneer VSX-1015TX so I assume they are new connection types.

also should I use the multi-channel out on the DVD changer or digital, which is better?

forget it, found out my problem. Noware does it say anywhere that there are little clear rubber covers on the ends of the cables that need to be removed first. oops. they fit perfectly now.

Glad you figured it out. The little plastic covers was going to be my first guess.

Just FYI, there are two types of toslink connectors - A and B, but they differ only in size. The mini (B) are found on small portable devices and sometimes on computer soundcards. The full size (A) connectors are found on HT equipment almost exclusively.

What size are the Toslink connectors?

I purchase a set of Optical Cables and was asked what size. I was given the choice of 5.0 mm, 4.0, 3.5, 2.2. I opted for 5.0. I found that that was not the correct size. I have 2 Questions.

1. What is the size?

2. Are there converters from the 5.0 to the correct size? and will I loose quality by using the converters?

Where did you purchase these cables?

I don't know off-hand the exact dimensions of each but there are only two types - A and B. If you go to any store that carries cables, they will be the large size (A) and they are what you need for HT equipment. Yes, there are adapters to go from the mini size to the full size or vice-versa. One cable I bought at Fry's electronics came with the adapter.
