So I just got my new Oppo player today and hooked it up. Went through the manual and set it up as suggested, but I don't feel that I am getting the up-convert quality that everyone rants and raves about the Oppo players. Maybe I have the settings wrong? I understand that it is not a blu-ray player, but I would think that the video quality would be quite a bit better than my older Sony DVP-NC650V DVD player (which is not upconvert).

I certainly love high quality audio and video, but am not an expert like you guys and have a difficult time getting the settings right, especially understanding the proper settings on the TV as well as Oppo color space (doesn't really make sense to me, options are: YCbCr 4:4:4 & 4:2:2 & RGB 4:4:4) and RGB Range.

Sorry for being such a newbie in all of this. Do you guys have some suggestions as to the proper setup with this DVD player and TV? I know the best suggest is to play around and see what works best, but there are so many options on both that I don't know where to start or what to adjust.

Thanks in advance.

May sound dumb, but did you make sure it is set to 1080p? When I got mine, I thought it would auto-detect like some other HDMI devices and set itself for the proper setting, but it didn't. I forced it to 1080 and it looked much better. 4:4:4, I believe the general consensus is if you set it to that and it works, leave it that way, as that is the best

I have my Denon 2900 which also does not upscale, and I have to say that I did notice that the PQ was better but not night and day better, and nowhere near as good as Blu-ray. I have since sold my 980 in anticipation of their forthcoming BD player.
