I own and regularly use 2 Oppo players, a 980 and the 83. I bought the 980 first, before the 83 was introduced. When I bought the 83, I assumed that would be the end of the 980 in the video room. But the 83 has a noisy transport. It's not so noisy as to be a problem watching movies, but the quiet passages in classical music are too quiet for the 83. I can hear the transport. I've spoken with Oppo about the 83 and they have acknowledged the issue, but tell me that's just the way it is.

I'm tempted by the new 93 BR player, but if the transport noise is the same as the 83 I'll just stick with what I've got. Has anyone compared the transport noise between the 83 and the 93?

The only thing I can hear from the 95 at close range is the fan. The 93 does not have a fan so you are good to go.

I think you have a bad BD 83. Mine is not noisy at all.

I got my 83 as an early adopter and mine is a little noisy also. I can't hear it from my seating position, but up close I can.

Look at page 15 of your manual. Toslink will not output the audio of most BD discs.

Auto resolution will not work with Analog connections.

You must set the resolution of your player to match that of your TV manually.

If you do that you should play most but not all BD discs.

The OPPO 83 does have the flags that will only allow output of audio and video via HDMI from discs that are flagged.

So, going forward you will be able to play less and less newer BD discs. Unfortunately use of HDMI is now pretty much forced for BD, and will be forced going forward.

What I do in my downstairs system which is analog, is use an auto HDMI switcher. That is connected to the DVR and the BD player and the output to the TV via HDMI.

The switcher goes to the TV and I can get the audio off the TV via RCA, or off the analog RCA of the BD player.

If your family room system is surround you have a problem though.

My downstairs system is two channel with subs via my crossover not LFE.bb

If the TV was newer it might not work for all BDs, as newer TVs will not pass audio to the analog or digital outs from all BD discs and probably less and less going forward.
