Anyone else have this happen to them. Does anyone know of a fix? Unfortunately I don't think I can set up a smart remote to work on the BDP as it is not set up for that from what I read on the web..

BDP 83..Fired off an email to Oppo and within 5 mins had a response and a method to fix it. I gave it a go and it seems to be working now. Hope it holds out. They said they would replace it if it didn't work..Thats great customer service.

[/COLOR]My remote URC R50 works with the Oppo 980, the only thing that doesn't work is the pause.

Remove the batteries from the remote control:

1. Press and hold the POWER button on the remote control for 3 seconds. Release.
2. Press and hold the SOURCE button on the remote control for 3 seconds. Release.
3. Repeat until all the buttons on the remote control have been pressed and held, individually, for 3 seconds each.
4. Replace the batteries with new ones (note: we do not recommend using Lithium batteries with the OPPO Remote).
5. Rotate the batteries in their compartment to ensure proper contact with the metal leads.
6. Change the dip switch at the bottom of the battery compartment to II or III.
7. Press the OPEN button on the front panel of the player so the tray ejects.
8. Aim the remote control at the front panel of the player and press and hold the ENTER button on the remote for 5 seconds.
9. The front panel should show CODE 2 or CODE 3.

If the remote control still does not work, then the remote will need to be replaced. In this case, please respond with your shipping information so we can send out a new remote control.

Thanks for posting that, and I find those instructions intriguing. Is pressing the buttons supposed to discharge energy stored in the circuitry? I've never seen anything like steps 1-3 before. Seems like switching the remote code (to 2 or 3) was the real ticket.

I thought that was a bit strange as well. I did it just for the heck of it. I ended up having to use code 3 so I think that you are right about that.

Also if needed there is an app for smartphones to control the oppo players, I guess incase your remote dies/ cant find it/ dont want to use it/etc

Pure speculation, but I'm guessing to discharge any caps that my have residual charge on them
