Well, quite a few companies have thrown their hat into the (stereo) wireless realm. The aforementioned Bluesound realm has the Node 2i (which I own and love) and their Flex speakers (never heard, but has pretty good reviews). Klipsch has the R-51PM which (as most do) streams over bluetooth. Kanto's newer Tuk seems pretty popular as is Audio Engine. SVS also has their Prime Wireless. If streaming over bluetooth is acceptable, then any of these would be fine, less expensive options.
To match everything the LSX does (beyond bluetooth) one would have to climb the price ladder as the LSX's are a pretty darn good deal considering. We mentioned the LSW and B&W has their own similar, the Formation Duo, which retails for $4K. Dali has the Callsito, Dynaudio has their own, app driven series, all of which are more expensive than the LSX.
EDIT: This is all taking into consideration your friend wants 2 speakers for a true stereo setup. There are plenty of "lifestyle" products out there, some of which are pretty amazing. The Naim Mu-so and Mu-so Qb are examples that look great and sound incredible. I am enamored with Bang & Olufsen as they seem to have finally match sound quality with their industrial design.
