Opinions on Bookshelf speakers

Thanks for all your suggestions. I looked at each one and they all look great for my bedroom. The CAOW1 is very appealing, but my greatest fear is I will get hooked on them and never get out of bed, or worse, want to change out my home theater.
That's what happened to me :D.

A number of years ago, in 2005, I built the CAOW1s and kept them in the bedroom as a smaller stereo system. After about a year, my wife commented that I never listened to music downstairs anymore. Those DIY speakers were much better than what I had downstairs.

In the fall of 2006, I heard an early DIY floor standing speaker that was ultimately developed into the Salk SongTower. I knew right away that I wanted them in my family room, and by the next year I got them. I still have them now and love them.

For $100 less, I'd recommend the Salk SongSurround over the CAOW1. They really are nearly identical speakers.

Fritz Speakers is a direct seller and his bookshelf speakers contain a 6'5" mid/woofer for better bass, tho both he and I would recommend they be on stands out from room boundaries so they will image properly and develop a three dimensional stage.

These are a great speaker and could easily be had within your budget from a decent dealer. I really enjoy them.

I also really enjoyed auditioning this speaker from Focal.

I like the lighter color that it comes in. The focal's 7" woofer is not a slouch. I was pretty impressed with their low and mid-bass abilities for a bookshelf. I was hoping they made towers with them.

PSB's is a little more accurate and has better soundstage at least in my opinion. Both are worth giving a listen to in that price range.

Bookshelf speakers

Hi :

Read your post. There are any number of speakers you can get in that price range. I sometimes buy from ebay you can get some excellent deals. Some of the stuff is new some used but in that price range for bookshelf speakers you can expect them to be near mint.

I spent a couple of minutes just to see what I could find;

Krell Resolution 3
Totum accoustic Model 1
B&W Nautilus SCM1
B&W Nautilus 805 (A few pair of these)

These speakers are all great speakers but the Krell,s are in a different ballpark they are used but mint and probably cost double what you can get them for. Again most people who buy at this level take care of there gear.

Check them out just for fun. Good luck

I would like to point out that power is not an issue. One could drive electrostatic speakers with a TX-SR805. It's one of the few receivers that can accomplish such prowess even with difficult speakers.

Stay away from point source speakers. You'll want good on and off axis response for your bedroom. Try also to avoid rear ported speakers as they may conflict with your limited placement options.
