Opinion on KEF Powered Speakers (LS50 Wireless II / LS60 Towers

The one thing psychologically defective with me is when I plan to buy something simple as it relates to home theater, it always ends up being a much larger purchase that I originally intended.

Currently considering 2 Options from KEF
- LS50 Wireless II
- LS60 Towers

I gifted my niece my YU6 Speakers for her gaming PC Setup (I helped her build her first gaming PC)

My excuse to level up the bedroom setup while still having WAF, not an easy task.
- Looked at on wall, and demo'd quite a few, but did not come away impressed (I do not want to do in-wall)
- Then looked at the KEF LSXII, but felt those were a bit on the smallish side for the bedroom (24x18)
- I did demo the LS50 Wireless II, but those are a lot bigger than what I expected in person for just bookshelves
- Found a dealer who has a demo pair of LS60 who is out of state, but 1 hour from my house so..no taxes
- LS60s while deper in size, are actually much narrower 8 vs 12in and would probably take up less space than
LS50s with stands.

Does anyone have experience or feedback with either of these speakers. I am not allowed to have any AMPS/AVR/AVPs in my room, and it has to be a simple design. Will NOT do a soundbar.

I have heard both, but didn't listen closely to the wireless because they weren't set up for optimal sound. The electronics have been upgraded as of at least 5 years ago. The LS50 are very strong and as long as the electronics don't get in the way of good sound, the wireless speakers are very good, too. A friend bought a pair of the LS50 and I know he wouldn't have chosen them if the sound wasn't really good- we worked for two audio dealers- the last being a custom integration company and he's now VP at a different one- all three sold excellent equipment. I can ask for his opinions on the LS50 if you want. I know the last regional sales mgr for KEF in the Midwest likes their speakers enough to buy a pair for himself, though- he doesn't mess around when sound quality is concerned.

As long as the coax is above your bed, and you don't plan on the SPL getting much over 90dbs, the 60s are nice and you could definitely do without a sub unless you wanted subsonic bass.

The LS60's are crazy good! Many people refer to them as "the mini-Blade" and I've never read a bad word about them.

I have a dealer offering to sell a demo pair for 4k, so seriously considering, I have until Jan 3rd to make a decision.

I think you will be quite happy with that decision with all the convenience and sound quality. Kal Rubinson was extremely pleased and comparing them to his Blades, that's high praise .

$4K? That's a NO BRAINER then. I heard a pair at a local dealer and my god! Yes, the Blade 2 they had were "better", but not multiples so. I was amazed at the bass they produced. They are limited in total SPL so if you listen at very loud volume, they can't keep up. I considered them as my end game until Arendal came out with their anniversary speakers and paired them with a McIntosh MA352. What color? The white ones I heard were really nice.

Titanium Gray, which would be my second choice (white being first) but at 4k, I am ok with the color. It is for a bedroom setup, so not going to be blasting the volume, I have my Personas for that . Out of state vendor, so definite tax benefit to that as well. 1 Hour from my house.

I’ve not had or heard KEF as bestbuy here doesn’t carry them on display but I’m surprised there’s no passive LS60 although they are rather pricey. Do q meta handle higher volumes better??

The R11/R7 have no problems keeping up and surpassing the LS60 in many areas, you have to keep in mind the functionality. The LS60, according to Erin, have an F3 of 23hz. That's what DSP can do.

Don’t know if I’ll ever be able to afford those but right now only my center channel runs out of headroom . I’m trying to swap it for a cheaper Sony I have also .

No option of wall mount. I’ve gone without a center for about 2 years now. It’s collecting dust. Phantom sounds good not sure if I’m missing anything. But last time I brought it up I’m missing my center I got the comment from my dad it was too old of a tv to be worth the risk of bothering to try...

q series are much cheaper but probably not much of an upgrade on my icons . Beside the center but $850 is a lot so I’d go back to phantom before spending that right now. Apply for jobs they don’t pay enough or get any replies lately . But anything to pay car insurance beats nothing.

I'd say you'll be very happy with the 60s. The advantage of not needing any other boxes for great sound is really appealing to "partners/WAF". Personas? Man. That was what I was shopping but with my other addiction (drum sets), I had to compromise.

If you’re like me and use the master bedroom system about 0.1% of the time, the living room system 0.9% of the time, and use the HT room 99% of the time, I think anything over $1K is a bit too much to be mostly collecting dust.

But if you’re getting the LS60, that is a great price and I think they will sound great for a secondary system.

Great Question, I have a wife that likes to sleep in late , and because we have a larger bedroom we both read and it would get significant use. She works retail hours so sometimes gets home later and we catch up on shows then. Our bedroom is large eough for a king sized bed and a loveseat, so it gets a lot more use then normal. Gotta love split king adjustable beds! When we do laundry, our laundry room is also on the second floor.

Family Room, TBH the Sony77A80J has decent sound for a TV, but our family room is 26x20 so a good size. We entertain about 2-3 times a month and that does get a good amount amount of use.

HT Room is primarily used for sporting events, concerts, and the occasional movies. Most of TV normal watching is done either in family room/bedroom

The room that gets the least amount of activity is the two channel room, which I am thinking of selling off.

I had the 50s, and they were serviceable, but not my first choice, the 60s are larger and I am sure sound better. I was a big GE fan back in the day, I had the T1s when they first came out and were in my HT room.

They definitely need a sub and crossed over at 100-120.
