Open Narrow Room, Tile floors and Windows

Wondering if anyone could suggest speakers (LCR) that would sound good in a less than optimal room? Presently we have a old onkyo surround sound system with the receiver which is on the fritz and thus we are looking at updating our system. The room is narrow and long but the speakers would be facing a wall of brick and sliding glass windows. There is an area rug but the floors are tile. Ceiling 8 feet. We used to have surround sound but it was just ridiculous to set up the speakers in the middle of nowhere then put them away after the movies. We are about 60% music and %40 movies only whether on dvd or tv. As to the receiver/separates we haven't decided on that yet either. price range $1200 and under for speakers; would consider buying good used as well. What I have listened to thus far include: Linn majiks 109--loved but optimally should be used with linn components which are out of our price range. LSA 1 and statements, using an LSA integrated amp. Absolutely loved these as a two channel set up but the integrated amp is a monster and wouldn't actually fit in our new av furniture. Paradigm signature monitors with a yamaha rx-a3000 I think. Also liked those but liked the linn and lsa's better. Then have listened to vienna acoustics...they sound muddled to me. But with all of these they were in listening rooms at audio stores with room treatments where as our room is a bright bounce around type room. We do not have any stores close to us that allow demo'ing at home so I was hoping for some suggestions from people with similarly reflective rooms. Thanks

Due to your room conditions and critical listening - it will be hard
to reccomend something. You will have to audition and choose
your comprimise. You may have to look into controlled-directivity
speaker systems.

directivity speakers

Thanks for the response. From what I gather (and I am not a physicist) the notion of controlled directivity speakers (i.e. attempts to take the room dynamics out of the equation) is limited by of course the actual length of sound waves and while it can create a larger listening area, it really doesn't completely negate the room. I suppose what I was looking for was suggestions for warmer speakers but not so warm they sound fuzzy, muddled as did the vienna acoustics. And of course, I realize my ears hear things differently as well as it would be grand to try differing speakers out but due to our location that is not a possibility. Thanks.
