What do you guys think about these two speakers? I was wondering how good the x-cs would serve as a pair of main speakers next to the x-ls. The x-cs are about 3 decibels more efficient and considering the drivers, probably a higher power handling. They are sealed instead of ported like the x-ls. I don't really care about the bass being less on the x-cs as I set my x-over high enough to where it makes limited difference. I also hate port noise, so if that is an issue then forget the x-ls. What I would like to do is get three of the x-cs for fronts and center and move my NHT 1.5s to the back, unless for some reason the NHTs sound better to me, but not likely.

I just want to be sure the x-cs is the better bargain.

I doubt you would hear any port noise with the X-LS unless you were really pushing them and had them set to large. I'm thinking about a new pair of speakers also and the same two are on my list....I'm leaning toward the X-CSs.

I have never heard any port noise on my X-LS. From all accounts, the X-LS and CS are both good choices. I don't think you can go wrong.:)

Onix X series

Only downside to the X-CS is they are big!
Order one for the center and a pair of X-LS. Set them up in your room and decide on another pair of X-LS for the rears or X-CS fronts with X-LS mains.
Or you could wait for the X-sls towers to come out and save money on stands. Can't lose either way. I am definately impressed with the Reference line from AV123.com

Well size is of no concern, just the best sound. I don't need extension on bass and if the x-cs are more efficient then for a few more bucks why not. So unless someone can convince me the x-ls sound better for fronts then I will likely get the x-cs.:D

I dont think you will hear any difference at all between the two except the X-CS are louder.

I used my X-CS as my mains until the Ferrari Red X-LS came...I dont miss them but they sure were opposing!!

Either one is a good choice.

Do they not carry Emotivia anymore? Alll I saw was their B-stock.

No. They split up a few months ago. There is a thread on it.

I'd stick with the X-LS. There could be that lobbing affect with the X-CS. WmAx knows the infinite details.

I was saying that stinks about Emotivia. WmAx said MTM reduces lobbing effect.

Actually, MTM can have a lobbing effect, but can be minimized by a lower mid to tweeter crossover point.

Also, the center lob is usually more than wide enough for the entire listening area.

My current speakers are all MTMs and I can tell you lobing is not an issue. It can be a trickier design, but it isn't so tough that there aren't plenty of good MTMs out there.

That's great, but it doesn't answer the question whether or not the Onix X-CS speakers suffer from this.

They were basically designed by the same guy...my guess would be the off axis response for the X-CS will be very good and lobing won't be an issue.

Seth=L said:
Someone explain the lobing affect please.
Basically, it is the M-T-M arrangement of the drivers - off axis, the two midbass drivers can create some combing, creating uneven response. If properly designed however, this should not be a major issue. You will generally not sit so far off axis that it is really a big problem also.
