Hey I have an onkyo 609 and mostly use it for blu ray and hooking my laptop to the tv. I've recently been checking into dish for tv (right now just using ota signal). I'm only wanting the basic dish package and it doesn't offer hd. Will my onkyo upscale the sd signal to full 1080 if I run the satellite box thru the av first? is there any settings I have to change to get the best picture? I know upscaled picture will never be as good as real 1080 but just wondering if I can push it with the av or stretch the extra $20 for the hd programming.

thanks for the help in advance. Bit of a noob with the av still.

Yes, the receiver can scale SD and so can the TV. But scaling 480i to 1080p is not going to look as good as a signal that originates at 1080i.

It still looks pretty good but if you really care about HD, then you really have to pony up the extra few bucks for HD channels from Dish.

Thanks for the reply. I may end up with hd package anyways. been asking dish reps a few questions about packages and each one tells a different story.
