Onkyo TX-SR876

I am really not to sure on what to do so thought i would blabber on here.

I have a new Onkyo AVR brought on line about 1 month ago and yesterday was the first time setting her up. As as of right now the L and R front channels are not working and i am leaning to-wards something internal is loose that requires warranty service. They did not work at the beginning. They did come on and was perfect for an hour then went off and has been that way since. Center and Surrounds are fine.

The nearest service center is about 2-3 hours away. The warranty option is one i am dreading as i just came out of dealing with warranty issues with my PJ and don't really want to deal with another one that could take just as long.


This is pretty much HT use only. Only once source right now which is a blue ray player HDMI in to the AVR and HDMI out to the PJ.

Soooo i have been thinking of what to do and i don't actually really know lol.

Buy a brand new 876 or a AVR close to the 876 audio and video processing features which can be a little bit more or less in cost i don't mind. Either local in Southern AZ or "gulp" on-line new or used i don't care at this point as long as it works as intended. Then work on the warranty issues later on the current AVR when i have more time.


If the Emotiva LPA-1 can be used to power the fronts, the Behringer EP2500 amp for the subs and then the Onkyo to do all the codec processing as well as the center and surrounds.

Will that option work?


Or have a non Onkyo service repair shop look see what is wrong and hopefully it can be fixed right and just pay up front.


When it was working it was AMMMAAAZING for that hour.

I bought 876 that had a problem with the remote and wound up returning it but they are such good receivers that I wanted another. The dealer was out and gave me a deal on a 906 instead . I love Onkyo receivers and have since bought a 606 for my bedroom. I'd see if it was too late to trade it for another of the same thing. If it's too late then I'd get it fixed. But before I did that I'd do some more testing. Try a different source and a different cable.

These are great sounding receivers. It's well worth the drive if it needs fixing, or if money isn't a problem send it via UPS. It's going to be cheaper than having a non authorized shop work on it and void the warranty.

For what it's worth my dealer was Amazon.com and they were golden about taking care of me.

Check the fuses.

Sholling is right. If you have a warranty on it, it's absolutely worth it to get it fixed or exchange it for the very same model or the 906.

Just use your older receiver for now, while you're dealing with your 876.

Don't even think to add an Emotiva amp to a broken 876. Get it fixed or replaced. It can be a simple thing as a burn fuse. I will check on that first.
Very easy: remove the top cover, and look near the back on the right wall (when facing your receiver from the rear), you'll see 4 fuses there, I believe, with white type of coloring. You'll have to remove them to test them.
If you don't know how, just bring them to an audio dealer close to you.
So, try that first and see how it goes.

But besides anything, your 876 is a great receiver worthy of anything.
