Get an 805 if you can - they are harder to find than the 705. Refurbished is your best bet (my theory: chances of problems with a refurb might actually be less than a new one because it has been repaired and then tested more than a new one would be), try http://www.accessories4less.com - they are still on sale there most likely - 1/2 what you would pay for an 876.

EDIT: If a refurb bothers you, my opinion would be get the 876, but only if money isn't an issue.

So what I was told is correct? You'd go with the video direct to the tv and just worry about the receiver handling sound for now (upgrade later)?

Your advice is much appreciated btw :) Doing this kind of learning via questions on blogs is difficult, which is why I posted that question about where to snag written material.

Edit: yeah, $$ isn't an issue (it's law school loans hehe)...just honestly trying to find a best-fit rather than buy the shiniest bauble I can.

No, sorry - I may have confused you. The 805 and 705 still have HDMI and will do anything you could ever want to do, it just won't upscale non-1080p signals to 1080p (not a big deal - your PS3 will upscale DVDs, just not quite as good as the 876 - you would never know that unless they were side-by-side though). You still want everything to go through the receiver for high-def audio, easy cabling, and easy operation.

I am not sure you would "upgrade later" until something truly new came out - who knows what that would be.

Right on. I had read the 805 had trouble with upconversions/video processing, but as I understand what you're saying, it won't make a hair of difference because the signal coming in fromt the PS3 will already be upscaled? Not overly worried about the Comcast signal...they can bite me anyway lol

I suppose it's time to start pricing 805s...

Thanks again :D

The site I posted is your best bet (trust me I have been looking :)). I couldn't find them new except on Amazon for 650ish and they don't actually have them in stock, I don't know if they ever will.

Glad to help.
