Small with an 80 Hz x-over. The sub setting seems a little low, depends on where the gain is set on the sub. Halfway or a little lower on the sub should be good.

Is this Onkyo's newest model? Why is this receiver better than the Pioneer, Denon or Yahama's? Does it upconvert any signal to 1080P? I read that Yamaha's have upscaling...what is that? I too am looking for a new reciever from one of the brands mentioned. Don't the Onkyo's run hot?

This is the latest model so far until the TX-SR877 replaces it soon.

It's better to me because it has all the features I need and it has the best upconverting chip out of all of them which means if the signal is lower then 1080p it converts it up to that and it's chip is better, cleaner resolution then a lot of HDTVs out their & so far the Audyssey has been pretty easy to deal with.

It does run Hot but I have a open shelf so it doesn't bother me and it's not that Hot I guess for my setup.

I would do the 876 over all of them if you can get a deal on one like myself or do the Pioneer SC-05 or SC-07 after that because those are also nice units and run slightly cooler with the Ice Amps but still get warm because I got one demoed for me at a home theater store and after the demo I put my hands on it and it was still pretty warm.

Which chip dos this unit have? Does it upconvert all signals to 1080P or just analog like the Pioneer units? I do have a concern over the heat. I would have to install it along with my dish dvr (which runs warm too) on 1 side & my blu ray & monster power center on the other. This is really a stand for my lcd tv. Even now, when I use my Pioneer 45TX, it really causes the dvr's temperature to rise.

The TX-SR876 is last year model (excellent receiver by the way).
It's good because it is fully loaded with all the goodies one wishes for. :)
It's not better than the others, it's just crashing them. ;)
Yes, it does upconvert to 1080P.
Yes, the 876 runs hot, so what? Just leave some room on top, or use a fan on top (right rear corner).
* By the way, the 876 has the excellent HQV Reon VX video processor.

The 876 replacement is the TX-NR3007 (a fantastic receiver).

Chip? Audio or Video? Anyway, on both counts; only the very best. :)

Ya all have a great day,

How do I go about setting the Audyssey to 8 positions because I only have a L Shaped couch that really holds 4 people on the straight side the L is a chaise for feet?

Do i get a pole and put the Mic A few feet in front of the originals more towards the TV because the three original positions are on the top edges of the couch at middle and both sides?

Thx...for the thread. I just ordered a 876 for $888 shipped. Now that I have a good receiver, now to work on the wife for the rest of the equipment...lol. I got my "foot in the door" with the reciever, all downhill from here. I need speaker recommendations for this receiver now - any help will be appreciated. Thank you ahead of time. :)

Hi theaterguy,

I will repost for the second time my graph, cause someone deleted my original post (from October 29 or 30th).

* First, a tripod with a boom is the way to go.

** Now, here's only one example from various ones that you can try,
but always use your 8 available microphone positions:

........................................Front of your room....................................
....................................................................................................
....................................................................................................
....................................................................____________............
....................................................................l..................l............
...................................Your L couch -->...........l..................l............
....................................................................l........(8)......l............
....................................................................l..................l............
..........................__________________________l............6.....l............
.........................l.............................................................l............
.........................l................5...........(7)...........4................l............
.........................l.............................................................l............
.........................l......2......................1......................3......l.............
.........................l______________________________________l.............
...........................................8.......................7...............................
....................................................................................................
....................................................................................................
...........................................Rear of your room...................................

* Start with the #1 position, and just keep following the order.

** And Don't place the mic on the couch, use a camera tripod,
or even better a mic stand with boom.

*** Positions #(7) & (8) in brackets are optional.

**** And don't worry on how many people actually sit on your couch,
what you want is to use all 8 microphone positions available, for best averaging result.

Hope this helps,
Bob
