Onkyo TX-SR875....Advice Needed???

I have been doing some strong considerations about my current setup and after reading the forums on here I just took a look at getting a new A/V receiver all together....

So I ask--I found the TX-SR875 on Ecost for $710...which seems like an unbelievable deal...

Currently I run a AVR-987 but am interested in the upgrade for the added power and most importantly the fantastic video processor that the are in the SR875....

Is this upgrade worth while at this price...any thoughts???

If you need the power (less than 3 dB increase), and the video processing (as oppposed to having that done by the source player/TV), yes, otherwise no.

The power really is not the issue....but I would like the power and scaling that the Reon chip provides....as the video capabilities of the AVR-987 are not near this quality...

Still any thoughts???

I think it's an awesome price.

I've bought from eCost before - 3 different times.

Just ask for a different carrier than DHL because they really suck. Other than that, eCost has good customer service and unbeatable prices. Just do NOT use DHL, and I cannot stress that ENOUGH.

As Peng eluded this is somewhat a source dependent question. If you have several standard definition sources that would benefit from the Reon then it is a yes. I have the pre/pro that uses the same processor and it does a great job scaling my sd sat and dvd's.

The only real negative I have found with the Onkyo product I have is the heat. You really need a well ventilated area to keep these things cool. Other than that the thing is a beast and you will be very happy.:D

Edit: I agree on so many levels that DHL is the worst shipping company out there.

Has anyone bought a reconditioned or B stock receiver? The prices look very tempting instead of going new.

I have. I took a risk from buying from an unauthorized dealer. Best if you buy from an authorized dealer or shoponkyo.....you might need that warrenty. So far, I am good but its less than 30 days. LOL.

I've bought a total of 5 B-stock Denons in the past. All worked great.
