That's a really tough call. I'm going to vote for the Onkyo simply because the 875 has the Reon chip. This may not be much of a factor if all your sources are hi-def and you don't need upscaling.

at least list the features of both here (tabulated form for both would be best) ... im not familiar with the onkyo products

i usually list the pros and cons of each unit and weigh for myself which features I can/cannot live with/without

I'd jump up to the 905 for a few hundred more. Nice toroidal transformer and more features.

I vote TX-SR875, the only thing I can find that it doesn't have that the Denon does is network connection for streaming music (usb as well). The Onkyo has THX Ultra II cert, which is pretty impressive. If scaling is not needed I suggest the Onkyo TX-SR805, which is pretty much the same basic receiver minus the scaler (TVs and Upscaling players could handle scaling pretty well).

hey seth, looks like you're the expert on Onkyos ...

does it have dual pairs of side surrounds as well?

what about separate crossovers for each speaker set?

Remember too that the Onkyos run hot, so if you don't have good ventilation then you may want to go with the 3808. I've read that it runs considerably cooler than the new Onkyos. I'd say that's the only drawback for the Onk.

I don't think it has dual side surrounds, is that a feature the Denon has?

I believe the Onkyo does have independant x-overs for each channel, though I can't be certain.:)

Well Here are the other components I plan on buying for this room.
Heat wont be an issue, I'm going to build an in wall cabinet with fans
and air filters. What I'm looking for is the best possible highest detailed sound.
I wish I could test both units side by side. I have heard the Onkyo has more "Balls" True??

David,

I think they are identical in audio performance, but the Onkyo beats the Denon 3808 in Price ($1,300 vs $1,600) & Video Performance (Reon HQV vs Faroudja).

So I would have to vote for Onkyo 875.

Hey, I'm thinking about getting the DefTech Trinity. I know the BP7000SCs are cranking out serious bass, but overkill is what we want, right?

Okay, well looks like I'll be buying the Onkyo 875

On the trinity's
I was going to buy 2 of those but chet at def-tech said 2 Reference subs would sound better in my size room. 2 of mine = 1 Trinity sub. Crazy every speaker including the surrounds will have a powered sub!!!!

I doubt that anyone will be able to hear a difference in sound quality between the two. I can't. But then again, I don't have those golden ears either.:D

I am used for Denon for the last 12 years. I am considering upgrading my Denon 3805. I went through many forums and read several reviews, all are supporting the Onkyo in a way or another versus the 3808 and the 4308. However, most of the people who are having the same problem and are used to the Denon went for the Denon.
