Hi,I am the new guy here, looks like a great place to hangout !I think I'll sit and stay a while.

my question is this,I just upgraded my AV receiver to a new Onkyo TX-SR806, got it saturday,so far I love it,still going through all the settings ,what is the best setting for audio ?

when listening to music,I just want 2 ch(fronts L&R) and the sub, what listening mode gives that or close to that for cd or fm listening ?

I know this sounds like a very basic question, but I can't find what mode I like.what do you guys use for audio listening ?

Hi Dan and welcome to the forum.

I have an 885 which has similar listening modes.

The 3 that I use for 2 or 2.1 channel listening are:

Stereo - uses crossover settings from your speaker setup and audyssy
Pure Audio - turns off video circuits and no sub- full range to mains
Direct -uses crossovers but no postprocessing

I don't have my manual in front of me so I could have of bit of this mixed up but look for those three modes in your manual I know there is a chart in the back.

Cheers.

When using stereo your sub will be on for frequencies below the crossover settings for your front speakers. So it would be 2.1 essentially. Standard stereo tracks do not have an LFE or .1 encoded into them (SACD's do I think)

If you have your speakers set to full range then it will not be active.

ahhh ! thanks,I had the fronts set to full range, now the woofer is on,cool !

I have Infinity Primus 150 speakers, and they don't get real good bass, especially at low volumes,so the sub helps a lot.

now, should I set the woofer and front xover points the same ?

I have them both set at 120 hz right now.

Yes if you cannot bypass the crossover on the sub then they should be set the same.

also the owners manual states that the powered sub be plugged into one place, and a sub with an outboard amp be plugged into a different plug on the 806,my sub is a custom built unit with a mono 150 watt amp mounted in the side of it,what is the difference in the 2 outputs on the onkyo 806 ? (hope that makes sense)
Hmm. This I am not sure I understand. What page on the manual does it say this and I will download it?
