Onkyo TX-SR805 vs. MARANTZ SR7001 vs. "YOUR OPINION"

I was about to get the Onkyo 605 but some people are having problems with it. I'm gonna wait and do some more research for one more week and definitely make my decision. So please, thrown in your 2 cents.

Option 1) I'll get one receiver up to $700 or less and wait 1 (or 2) month for my DVD Player or;

Option 2) I'll get one entry level like Yamaha 661 + Blu-Ray, and then, after 2 years do another upgrade ...

Can YOU help me ?

Many of us are mulling over when to upgrade to a receiver with the 1.3a and all the new formats. For myself, I consider Onkyo an excellent manufacturer and have had good luck with their products in the past. Regarding the Blu-ray it depends how important the video quality is to you, whether you have a set good enough to bring it's best, and whether you sit close enough to notice the difference.

I really could not tell a sound difference between AV receivers so it is all about the features. HDMI seems like a big crapshoot. Sometimes it works great and sometimes a movie has all kinds of glitches, lost handshake or whatever the gurus call it.

Both Blu-ray and top-notch receivers will come down in price over two years so it really comes down to what is most important to you now. For me it would be a better receiver but I only have a 1080i Samsung DLP 50 inch set (not that I'm dissatisfied in any manner). I will labor over speakers to buy for months but we picked the TV in one day.

Those Acoustech speakers are very easy to drive. So I would pick a receiver with the audio/video features you need. Not like you need a lot of power.

That's exactly my point. Second, I have a entry level speakers setup so, stick with entry level AVR and DVD and then, after some run go for a do-over or, get a good receiver right away not knowing what kinda speakers that I can possible have in the future. Does it make sense ? I know it is confusing, sorry.

I have an 805 and I'm really happy with it. I upgraded from a Denon 3805 and found to be happier with the onyko.

In my experience the Denon ran hotter than the 805. I do experience some lip sync issues with the 805 but it’s really dependant on the channel and whether or not the program was recorded. I have DirecTV and have the biggest issues with Speed HD and CNN HD. I've never had issues with DVD's played from a Denon 2930 or HD DVD's played from an A20--both played thru HDMI inputs.

One financial management issue you might consider is this. Blu Ray is a new technology and, like all new technologies in the CE world, will go down in price fairly dramatically going forward. So buying a BD player later rather than sooner would make some sense.

About the PS3, I've got the PS2 with 30 games at least, and still we only play Guitar Hero once in a while I meant "WE", but actually it's only my wife

What kills me is that that RX-V1700 costs less than the RX-V861 in many places, and the RX-V1700 is a superior receiver, in my opinion. I mean it looks nicer, has more features, and more than likely more power, what more could you ask for?
