Good Morning, I just recently got a home theater system setup and running it sounds awesome I have a set of Paradigms 100 v .5 with a emotiva xpa5 amp. When listening to music and playing movies / video games the speakers dont seem to be as loud as they were in the store. Granted the room probably had room treatments and were using a NAD amp and receiver so that may be the case. I usually have the receiver volume at -25 to -20 DB, should I be in fear of blowing the speakers if I go lower say to -13 or -10 DB?
Maybe I am missing something in the receiver settings I have read the manual and am still confused. i have tried many different audio settings Direct, Stereo ,pure audio and that doesnt seem to make them any louder. Maybe someone could give me some insight on this receiver and the settings they use for their setup?

My set-up is in a large room. I have a Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver, fairly comparable to your Onkyo.
For music, even before I got an amp, -10 was not unusual if I wanted it loud.
You shouldn't have many worries taking yours to that level.

Did you run Audissey (spell check?)

Disengaged it for a higher Master Volume.

Disengaging Audyssey just to achieve higher volume is not necessarily a good solution.
He's barely approaching 1/2 volume right now.
Unless there is some noticeable improvement in sound quality by turning Audyssey off, doubtful, then best leave it on and turn up the volume.

I agree; it was just a simple tip regarding total absolute Master Volume.

Maybe because the OP is using the Onkyo TX-SR707 receiver as his preamp in his own setup (Check post #1).

That's difficult to say without knowing what level your amp trims are set at. Still I'd say probably not since the 100s can take some heat.

Pure audio just turns off the video processor(use this anytime you want to only listen since it will reduce the heat inside the receiver. Heat kills electronics over time. So saving it from some heat will be helpful.

If Audyssey is engaged, it's perfectly normal.

Don't sweat it if your Master Volume is near -10db;
just enjoy your Music & your Movies.
