So I have some news.

The good news:

There are no problems with either piece of equipment or any of my cables AND I have picture!

The bad news:

My embarrassment

In all of the items I checked I missed an obvious one: Blu-Ray HDMI defaults to 1080P output when set to auto. I have a direct view television. Switch the output to 1080i and voila... picture.

Thanks to everyone for their help. Now I will be able to enjoy my new toys without apprehension & disappointment.

Glad it was something simple in the end.

This issue does demonstrate how complex these systems have got. I dreaded making a mistake in my set up. Lady luck was with me and set up went fast.

At least I did have your problem in my differential diagnosis!

The only other issue is to make sure you have not set the receiver to a resolution not supported by the TV.
I'm glad you can now enjoy your set up.

It was the BD player. Even when it is set to "auto" for resolution, it outputs 1080p. With standard DVD it does a 1080p upconversion process while in "auto". That is why I had no picture. The receiver was always set to "through".

I guess it was Panasonic's assumption that everyone using a BD player will have a 1080p capable display.

I don't know if mine is 1080p or not. I just had setting the resolution on my check list, my display is 1080i also.

You will love BD I think.
