Onkyo Tx-sr674 & Onkyo Tx-sr605

I finally decided to get ONKYO receiver as I heard they are the most user friendly brand for receivers.

I was wondering which one is better, the 674 or the 605, seeing as they cost almost the same.

I will have PS3 (hopefully in the near future), DVD player, speakers and a desktop computer.

Which one do you guys think will fit me best? I know we should get receivers based on what we need, but I am just wondering if there is more to it than my noob point of view.

Thanks

The 605 is the latest model of the 6xx series and adds support for decoding the latest lossless audio formats. If you can get the 605 for about the same price as the 674 there would be no reason to get the 674.

Oh ok, thanks,
because I thought that the 605 and the 674 means the newer generation, since 674 is bigger than 605, but apparently it doesn't work that way, :p

Thank you

Actually, same dimensions and weight for both units. Just checked
Onkyo's site. the 674 is a discontinued model.

The only feature I see on the TX-SR674 that isn't on the TX-SR605 is the powered Zone 2, which in my opinion does not compensate for HDMI 1.3a, HD audio decoding, newest version of Audyssey Auto EQ, and upscaling.;)

I would go for the TX-SR605.:)

Check again...the 605 definitely has powered zone 2. :)

Just ribbing you Seth. One thing Onkyo does NOT do is remove features from one model year to the next. What they do is migrate features from the higher model numbers down to the lower model numbers.

Most receivers do limit the main zone to 5.1 if the zone 2 speakers are being powered. That is simply because the surround back channels are used to power zone 2. If you use the zone 2 pre-outs to a separate amp you can still retain 7.1 in the main zone.

I suppose it is pointless to argue, even if just a little, with someone that "has very reliable input".:D

Thanks for the response guys, I am very much interested in Onkyo 605, but I saw from a bunch of reviews (some website and cnet review) that the 605 "lacks or has poor 2:3 pull-down processing" to be honest with you guys, I am not really sure what that means, but isn't it the processing that makes the content of DVD to fit your screen? I am not sure how critical this is, but I have a SONY 23" Widescreen TV/monitor.

I was wondering if anyone has any thought on this? if the 605 still worth it, or if there is any way to fix it? whatever you thoughts on this is
