Would it be a good deal to get this receiver for $250 (Canadian)?

I am looking to find a higher powered, up to date receiver to replace my Denon 588. It might be a risk because I've heard Onkyo's sound quite bright with Mordaunt Short receivers (which is what I have).

Can anyone comment on the price, quality, or compatibility? Any related help would be well appreciated!

Thanks.

The biggest issue with the Onkyo is it's lack of pre-outs for external amps, but the Denon you have doesn't have them either.
$250 is a decent price for the 606 but performance-wise; to me it seems to be a bit of a lateral move.

Just my opinion.

I have a 606 in my bedroom and they are darn good entry priced receivers. More feature rich than your Denon with just a tad more power. Unless setup incorrectly there is no reason why any decent receiver at this price point should alter the sound, i.e. make a speaker sound "bright".

I have no clue what a good price is for a used 606 is in Canada but I'd consider that about top dollar in the states because we can buy refurbished 607s for $320US, and refurbished 707s for $500US. Unfortunately they won't ship to Canada. Anyway unless you need the added features of the 606 now I'd save a bit longer for a 707.
