the the Yammy RXV550 & 650 has alot more differences than 5w power

the 650 have over the 550
1-Pure direct mode (which is the best for music)
2-heavier Power supply than the 550
3-YAPO
4-Pre outs

i don't remember if there's more but in ur case u may find the Pure Direct on the 650 in music better than the Onkyo (maybe, maybe not)

Upon further research

Upon further research I can tell you this. Yamaha has a better processor for Dolby Digital channel separation then most other manufacturers. In addition to the fact that the Yamaha comes with YPAO, their proprietary parametric room equalizer; although I have found these type of auto EQ devices to be very poor at setting up a system "accurately"; for that you need the human ear. I say this to you, even though I personally own two Onkyo Receivers. Onkyo makes outstanding receivers. In fact my old one never died. I moved it to another room where it still works beautifully (unfortunately it is not capable of doing Dobly Digital or I would still be using it in my Home Theater). I have been doing this a long time now; longer then most. I have had a home theater for well over ten years now. Now I have a 6.1 system...soon it will be time for a THX Ultra2 7.1 channel receiver. It never ends... :D

Well I did lot of testing and Onkyo is superior as far is music concerned...Yamaha is slightly better with movies..but just slightly...music just doesn't sound as good with Yamaha..Onkyo has same thing like yamaha's YPAO but you can also adjust each speaker manualy (each has its own GEQ) which comes in pretty handy...

Feature wise they are evenly matched....

Another interesting thing that cought my eye is power rating of the units...
Yamaha uses 430 Watts while Onkyo uses whoping 800Watts..

To put real power out you have to use some...this probably has to do with how they go about amplification and their amp types...

So for me it will be Onkyo...

Thanks all of you for your advice!!

It is true that the yamaha is great for movies and the Onkyo is great for music
but if you want a receiver that is 50/50 for both, then i suggest getting a marantz receiver. Like for example i am thinking of getting of the Marantz Sr-7400 for $599 at www.ac4l.com or get the Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K for less at my friend's job at best buy. ;)
