Onkyo TX-NR905 Backorder Issues, Advice welcome.

I've had an Onkyo TX-NR905 on order for over three weeks now. Even though I ordered it at a great price, I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel it and wait. After seeing the capabilities of the new Yamaha offerings, it made me wonder when Onkyo's 2008 products will see daylight. After all, the 905 is a 2007 product.

The worst thing is, I have installed a wonderful new 7.1 speaker system and can't take full advantage of it with my eight year old Pioneer VSX-710S. Though, i'm definitely enjoying it since the majority of movies are still 5.1.

Any info or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on what "great price" means. The 905 is likely one of the most powerful receivers that has all the latest features except HDCD decoding but that is not an issue for most people. The only thing you may want to do some research on is reliability, as I am not sure how they compare to Denon and Yamaha's products.

Depends on which part of the world you are!
I've seen some in Singapore on the shelf. Europe is a bit more difficult.

What was the offer you had?

I would definitely wait for it.

I still cannot believe the Onkyo SR575 has crosstalk of -92dB, frequency response of 20Hz-20kHz +/-0.1dB, and THD+N of 0.004%!!!

I would like to see Home Theater Magazine do lab measurements on the Onkyo 905!

Any of these Onkyo receivers (805, 875, 905, etc.) will sound fantastic.

The Onkyo 905 is finally here!

Well, after a month of waiting on backorder, my 905 is out for delivery!

I guess I'll be up all night :D I can't wait!

The word I'm getting is that Onkyo planned on selling 4,000 905's this year... well, they apparently have orders for more than 18,000  I've also been told that the 805, which is one of their best sellers, is also on backorder.

It's been said that their '07 lineup has moved Onkyo from 3rd to first in sales, over Denon. Of course, this is hear-say but, could be fact given the value throughout their lineup.

I'll try to offer some initial impressions in a couple days.

Good news for you!! I think you will really enjoy the receiver. Just give it some room to breath and enjoy. The other good news for you is that it will have the latest firmware and you won't have to go through some of the issues the first round they released. I have the pre-amp that is very close feature wise to the 905 and I really like it.

Have fun.:D

You make some good points. My dealer has felt awful and been very apologetic about the backorder. I've constantly told him that I wasn't really worried about it since there was a chance it would have the latest firmware and be the latest product.

The way I have the closet set up, there should be 4-6" at the minimum, to the sides and top. Plus, there's another 1 1/2' to the top of the closet from the shelf above. The only thing on the shelf with the 905 will be the PS3. I have the PS3 oriented vertically for heat reasons. Having it sit on the left side allows the heat to escape easier and it seems to keep it slightly cooler since it only has vents on the bottom and the right side. That also frees up more distance to the 905.

I'm already seeking reasonable options for venting the closet just in case.

Hey man I have been waiting for 8 weeks for my 875B and finally I will get it this Friday sooo it is worth the wait. Apparently they don't stock up on the 875 and 905 and on some occasions have to make them once they are purchased and go through more rigorous testing vs the lower models and they are the higher end receivers and don't want to disappoint customers like u and me ...I know I would be pissed if it had issues knowing how much I paid for this receiver!!!!!

Hey Guys,

GREAT NEWS!!!!! I just got a call from my guy who sold me the 875 and told me that the 875 they gave me was actually the one they are suppose to use for display purposes and it angered me at first but then they told me that they can give me the 905!!! for only an extra $200. Guess what I didn't hesitate, drove back with the 875 and got my 905 the first day!!!!!:) WOW this thing is a beast. I have read reviews of people saying how heavy it is and to be careful when you pick it up but I forgot all about it and pulled a muscle. I thought I was happy before with my 875 but now I am even happier with the 905 added features, HD Radio, HDXM, 2 HDMI Out I can bi Amp the fronts for I think it was up to 200+ watts from what I was told. Looking to get it and my HT installed within the next month and will post pics when its done:)!!! Cant wait!!!!

BTW: Do u think I should get an extended warranty with the 905 or leave it be as no one has ever reported any issues with it from all the reviews I have read.
