There is probably an easy way to do this, but after racking my brain for a few weeks I am going to post the question here (I did RTFM, but may have missed something).

I am using an Onlyo 1009 as a preamp. I would like to remotely turn on the power amps through a Monter control center (my normal procedure with previous receivers). So I am simply looking for a 5-12v tap to wake up the Monster control center. The receiver has remote signal taps for zones 2 and 3, but I canot see anything for zone 1. Any ideas?

Yes, I can turn on the remote zones every time (or maybe there is an 'All On' button I am missing), but that is clunky. It seems like too big a faux pas to leave out in an otherwise hyper-feature-rich design. So it must be I am missing something obvious. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Jose

Welcome to the forum, Jose!

Wow, that is kinda weird. I just RTFM, too :D, and I can't find a way to assign the zone 2/3 triggers to the main zone. After briefly looking online about this issue, it appears this it typical for Onkyo receivers. That's just odd to have preouts and no trigger.

Does your Monster control center have any sensing in it to tell when a component is turned on (like this smart strip does)? If not, maybe that smart strip would be an option for you. I linked that particular one because you can adjust the sensitivity on it.

Thanks - this helps me confirm I am not nuts. Onkyo also decided to leave our a switched (or any) power outlet that could signal anything at 110v. The power strip you suggest could be a solution to that by feeding the receiver as the control device and connecting any of the other ports to the Monster's 110v control signal. I can connect the power strip itself to an always-on port in the Monster so that I still get some benefit from its more advanced power filtering. Thanks again - I may try this solution (or just leave the amps on full time).

I've been in the same boat with 12v triggers since the switched outlet went away. I've heard of people programing their universal remotes to somehow turn on zone-2 as a work around but I haven't figured out the secret to making it work, though I haven't tried all that hard.

You could use a smart strip or remote controlled strip as suggested and an Emotiva 12v trigger switch. When powered up the trigger sends a wake up signal to up to two amps and when the trigger is powered down the amps go back to sleep.

If you have a logitech remote it's very easy to have it turn on zone 2 when you hit an activity button. The only issue with doing it that way is that if you switch activities then it'll turn zone 2 off if you have them all programmed to turn it on.

I found that the best way is to just program a button on the remote that isn't being used to activate zone two and make that button your zone 2 button for all activities (if possible). I have the harmony one so I just added that zone 2 button to the touch buttons so it doesn't interfere with the physical remote buttons.

I'm sure with other programmable universal remotes it's just as easy.
