Onkyo TX-605, DVD inputs

Hello Everyone
This is going to be my first post, please forgive me if I ask silly questions. I am facing a problem with Onkyo TX-605,

I recently bought Onkyo TX-605 and Audigy 2 ZS sound blaster card (creative), I hooked up everything to my existing Bose system (5.1 channel). Now the problem is I can send the output to front speakers, but center and back speakers are not producing any sound. I check the signal from my sound card, its sending signal into three parts (Front, Center and back), but receiver is not producing any sound from center and back speakers. I am using RCA cable (one end two RCA jacks, other end one headphone kind of jack).

Please help me out before I return Onkyo TX-605, I just want to make sure I am not making any mistakes.

Don't blame the receiver. It will output Dolby or DTS 5.1 surround only if it has a 5.1 surround source.

It will matrix a stereo signal to surround if you like. Look for a button on the front of the unit labelled "listening mode." You can step through the modes there and some of them will matrix a stereo signal to all 5 speakers.

I have 5.1 Source, its checked thoroughly and its working.
I am using Audigy 2 ZS (laptop) source

You have ONE cable with a mini plug on one end and 2 RCA plugs on the other? You'd need three such cables.

What input are you using on the Onkyo receiver? If you did have 3 cables from the sound card to the receiver you'd need to use the 5.1 multi-channel inputs not the DVD input.

I don't know if the laptop version of the card has a digital output but if it does you should be using that instead. You'd need to go into the sound card's control panel and enable the digital output.

I am using RCA cable (one end two RCA jacks, other end one headphone kind of jack).

This will result in two analog channels being sent to the receiver. If the card decodes six channels into a 5.1 analog, you need two more, all three going to the correct (5.1) analog inputs of the receiver. If you're using a headphone jack, you're only getting a stereo signal.

Consider well what the others are saying and check your manuals.

I checked the manual. It sounds like you're using the stereo analog connection. You need to use the digital output from the card to the receiver. Then configure the software for digital output.

You can use a Composite video cable for a SPDIF connection (used for bitstream 5.1) or toslink (same purpose and intent, just costs more in most cases)

thanks Guys, My problem is solved. I found out there is a Multi CHannel mode in Onkyo TX-605 Receiver. It was a tiny button on the remote I pushed it in and it worked.
