I have a question that you guys are going to think is so easy, I think. If I want to listen to music but have the TV displaying programing what do I need to do. On my old JVC I was able to change source with one quick button. I would assume it is pretty similar but I looked in the manual and was not able to find anything about it.

Thanks for the help.

If you are listening to a music source that doesn't have a video input assigned to it you should be able to view the tv while listening to music. Its how my Integra DHC 40.1 works - which is based on the Onkyo NR807.

Well I use the WDTV to listen to my pandora account quite often. So there is actually a video source. I am wondering if there is a way to watch regular TV programing while using WD TV?

Reason being is that we will have people over for football games, and have the music on while watching the game.

This reply is based on the assumption that the set up of your Onkyo SR706 is basically the same as my Onkyo TX-SR508 and that your connections are via HDMI. I can have the receiver and the TV on and have the TV sound output to the receiver's speakers or listen to music in which case the TV's sound is muted. If I turn the receiver off, the TV sound comes back on. Here is the setup that lets me do that.

The TV cable box output is connected to the receiver's HDMI 3 (the default connection). MY Onkyo DB-CP706 DVD changed is hooked up to HDMI 1 which is, again, the default. HDMI out goes to the TV. All hookups are HDMI. The HDMI settings (Setup/1. HDMI Input) are at the defaut values of BD/DVD - HDMI1, VCR/DVR -HDMI2, CBL/SAT - HDMI 3.

The HDMI Setup (menu selection 10 in setup) is Audio TV Out - Auto, HDMI Control - On, HDMI Control (HIHD) - On, Audio Return Ch (ARC) - Auto, Power Control - On, TV Conrol - On.

Maybe some of these settings could be changed and still provide the disired result, but things are working the way I want.

Hope this helps,

Rich

I posted an earilier reply in which I showed the Onkyo setup that allows me to watch TV while the music (e.g. FM) is output to the systems's speakers. One other thing that I should probably add and that you probably already know, to switch the sound to TV and then to, for example FM, either press the appropriate input selector on the receiver's front panel or, on the Remote Mode selector, press Receiver and then on Remote Mode Input Selector, press CBL/SAT (assuming that you have the receivers output sent to the TV). To switch to FM press Receiver and then Tuner.

I haven't found a way to watch TV and listen to music through the receiver, but you could split the HDMI feed from your cable box and run it to a second HDMI port on the TV.
