I just bought my PS3 today, and hooked it up. It seems that intermittently, my receiver (Onkyo TX-SR604) will shut off. This has *never* happened in the 3 years ive owned it. It seems it might be related to when the volume passes a certain point. It happens while playing games, or withh a blu-ray movie as well Does anyone have any ideas about this?? Any help would be amazingly appreciated!!

Double check for the following:
1. AVR has adequate ventilation space, should have at least 3" clearance for the L/R sides and top cover
2. Make sure you have no small wire strands for the speaker wires that may be shorted, either at the back of the AVR or loudspeaker
3. Where are the tone controls set? If adjusted @ an extreme boost position you may be overdriving the amplifier

Just my $0.01.. ;)

Thanks for the reply. How do I check for shorted wires exactly...? (extreme novice here).

A couple of ways..
Use a volt-ohm meter, or check each rear panel speaker wire connection. Pull out each wire, twist the strands titely together then re-insert into the binding post. Make sure when you slide back the AVR be careful not to distrub each wire..

Just my $0.01.. ;)

You may want to use a magnifying glass to check around the terminals at the receiver and speaker. At time, hard to see just one strand.

Try nipping the wire ends off and expose new clean wire. Sometimes wire gets corroded or has something on it that causes a bad connection. This may set off the protection circuit.
Try using a different set of cables between the AVR and the player.
