I am thinking about upgrading my receiver. My choices are either the Onkyo TX-NR3008 or Denon AVR 4311cl. Just curious what everyone's review or advice would be. I have had two Onkyo's and I really like how they sound.

If you can afford the Denon AVR-4311CI, that's the one to get! Audyssey MultEQ XT32 alone is worth it!

They both have MultEQ XT32. I looked at both of them and I'm going with the 4311 once funds free up. I will say though, you can get the Onkyo cheaper I've noticed (seen it new for $1150 IIRC @ NewEgg vs $1500 for the 4311CI).

I know Vanns had a good deal on the Onkyo for $1230 with no tax and free shipping to NY. Didn't know Newegg had the Denon for $1500. Best Buy wants $2000 for it.

I didn't see the Denon at NewEgg, period. They are not listed as an authorized Denon online seller, according to the Denon homepage.

There was another thread in which a member pointed me to the 4311 at Electronics Expo for $1500 if you call them and ask for their best price.

I like the Onkyo better!
It seems like a lot of people are high on Denon. I tried other receivers but still came back to Onkyo. They just sound real good with my speakers.

Yeah I was going to say that New Egg is not an authorized dealer for Onkyo or Denon. So even though you might get it for a cheaper price there - the manufactures warranty won't cover it.

$1500 is really good for a receiver that new but I am still leaning toward the Onkyo.

NewEgg is authorized online retailer for Onkyo, but not Denon.

It's understandable to lean towards the Onkyo, especially at a lower price if you shop around and that you've had good luck with them in the past. Either way, you should be pretty well setup for the future on the receiver side.

Yeah you are right about New Egg being an authorized dealer for Onkyo. But their price on the 3008 is way higher then Vanns!

I had a bad experience with Yamaha. A year ago I wanted to get a different receiver so I figured I would try a different brand other then Onkyo. The Yamaha sounded terrible! So after that experience I am kind of hesitant about trying out Denon.

What I do want to do in the future is get a Sunfire Amp and then I will have my dream system!

Get the 4311, the 3008 & 5008 have serious quality issues. I had two 3008 that had problems before I had enough. I got the 4311 and so far no problems. Also, the Denon's xt32 is better implemented than the 3008. You can chose between AUD & flat, the Denon's run much cooler than the Onkyo.

I just sent back my Onkyo 3008 because it wouldn't complete my Audyssey speaker calibration. So now I have a week to decide if I want another one or something different.
