I currently have have a Pioneer VSX-821-K which are powering my infinity classia c336 (fronts) Infinity Primus 250 (center) and Infinity RS3 (rears). I'm interested in getting the Onkyo M-282 for my fronts but i wanted to know if I'm really going to notice a difference to what I already have. My budget is $350 if there are better options. Most amps I've checked are way over that price range.

Your receiver doesn't have preamplifier output connections to connect a power amplifier. That said, the M-282 is not a very big amplifier, I wouldn't recommend it unless you could get one for around $130 assuming it could be used with your receiver.

Prepare for onslaught of questions...

Do you have a powered subwoofer? How large is your room? Do you live in a house, apartment, duplex...etc?

I know in the car audio world, one could get a line level converter to connect to a head unit without rca preouts. Does this apply to the home audio world?

I'm definitely no expert, but my observations from just quickly looking at them is that most of them can't handle more than about 35WPC per input.

Not sure if there is a more capable version for home audio though.

scosche has one that is said to accept 80wpc; don't know how real the claims are but thats all I know.

I thought my receiver actually had the connections for it. I checked on the Pioneer website and I see it shows "Pre-Amp Output - 2.1 Ch (SW, SB/FH)". Is this not the correct connection?

You only have pre-outs for the sub and for either surround back or front height speakers.

The preouts you're speaking of are the Subwoofer (SW) and either Surround Back (SB) or Front Height (FH). Unfortunately, you would have to get another avr with preouts. Fortunately, the 1121 can be had for $450 shipped. If you want another model of avr you'd have to pay more for one with preouts. You would have to go as high as the denon's 3312 for preouts and onkyo's 709 Both well over $450, but they are very good avr's.
