To all,

This is my first post on the Home Theater Forum at Audioholics and I would first like to thank everyone for sharing their knowledge on this forum. It has helped me select the following system for my home theater that has replaced the old system (Sony MHC-F250AV/TOSHIBA 27" CRT/Panasonic DVD-F87)

Yamaha RX-V1500
Axiom M20i
Axiom VP100
Axiom EP125
Sony KF-42WE610
Panasonic DVD-F87 (Will go to the Master Bedroom System)
I am thinking of purchasing the ONKYO DV-CP802S to compliment this system. I like the fact that it can play virtually all formats and that it is a multiple disc player.

Your input would be greatly appreciated. BTW, my budget for the DVD player is about $400.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Mark

Did you buy it yet???

I am also looking at the Onkyo 802 and was wondering if you had purchased it yet? I haven't found much in the way of user reviews or opinions on the internet.

I have one coming it should be first of next week 802b. I called onk and they stated it has the same internals as the now discontinued 800 which was thx cert and twice the price for a single disc player.

Initial impressions: DV-CP802S

Howie85 and Jetdrvr,

I have had the DV-CP802S for a week and it is awesome. I'm new to this stuff so forgive my lack of technical audiophile terms but when I was watching the following DVD's (Jurasic park series, Starwars series, Bourne Identity, Top Gun, Shrek 1 and 2, Finding Nemo) I was totally amazed at the presence, detail (audio and visual), fullness, base reproduction (the room shook!!!) and accuracy that the DV-CP802S had over the Panasonic. My wife was totally amazed at the surround sound separation that was absent in the Panasonic. As for set up, I just followed the operators manual and did not have a problem at all. By the way, if the DVD has the DTS Audio option, take it over the Dolby Digital. Lastly, check out onecall.com. They had a really good price for it.

I hope this helps,

I got mine at onecall for $449 a few months ago. I'm very impressed with it and I use it daily for music and weekly (or more often) for video. CD and DVD-V quality matches or betters anything else I've had (Panny RP62 DVD, Marantz CD63SE, Pioneer Elite changer, etc). The multi-ch high rez formats are new to me and I'm learning to appreciate multi-ch music (being a stubborn 2-ch music person). I love the Eagles: when hell freezes over in multi-ch but find some titles still do better in 2-ch like Norah Jones. I like the 802 so much I'm thinking about getting another one for my bedroom system.

Got mine from vanns.com and paid 394 and change. I have used them before and no tax and free shipping. They also repack in larger boxes with added protection for your stuff. My amps came ups and as usual the boxes looked like they had been through a soccer match as the ball. But the inside was all good. Hate shipping damage  Also they are an authorized dealer for Onkyo so no warranty issues. Got my Blue Jeans cables in today ready for hookup.....now just waiting for my 802

Sweet

got my 802 and i can say i had my doubts but this is a really enjoyable unit. I took home a denon 2910 for about 10days and it was good, lots of features etc but i found my tv did not like the up conversion. It had vert lines more like shadows scanning left to right when upconverting so i took it back. The picture quality from components using progressive is comparable to the 2910 and the sound is awsome. I got dsotm on sacd and the 802 doubles the rear so you can get 7.1. The last time floyd sounded that good was live in 88. I was leary of a changer but changing disc types from dvd-a to sacd to dts made it easy to compare without having to get up and changing discs without having to stop playing is a convient feature. :D
