Onkyo now has firmware updates for the X007 models.
What! Already! Any idea of what this is about?
And do you have to bring your receiver to the nearest Onkyo service center?
Or do you have to ship it to them at your own charges?

Is the end near yet? :(

I just did mine via the net. From what I can tell it fixed the problem I was having before. When I tried to run Audyssey with my mains bi-amped I would get a speaker error.

It has fixed that issue, so now I have just completed running Audyssey and now can finally enjoy movies, the main reason why I bought this receiver.

That is all I know of now.

Wow! Thanks for the quick response.

This is great indeed; bi-amping your front main ones with Audyssey working perfectly in tandem
(no 'speaker error' displaying anymore). Youpie!
Plus the firmware update through the internet! Great!

What more can you ask for? :)

* I guess Onkyo is improving after all. Way to go Onkyo!
Sign me in. ;)

** Now, if I can get a good deal on that TX-NR3007, I could sell my 876.

I bet it does. :D

* By the way, I'm rewatching the blu-ray version of it for the fourth time as in many days.

** Hey dapack69, why the Denon 3800 blu-ray player on your wish list?
Why not the Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray Universal Disc player instead?
Also, do you buy lottery tickets?

Is there anything else but blu-ray?

Never said I bought lottery tickets, besides while I am in Korea its hard to do. As far for the Denon over the Oppo; I have no SACD or DVD-A's that need to be played. And for the price of $600, I can't pass the Denon up.

^ Well the Oppo BDP-83 is even less money, plus, it totally ROCKS.

* And in your wisch list, you hope to win the lottery; but you need to buy tickets if you want to have a chance of winning it, right? ;)

I know the Oppo is a great player, other companies have been buying it and using most of the parts and just upgrading the power supply along with a few other items and selling them for over $2500.

Plus the Denon has superior DAC's for CD playback via analog.

But, is the Denon do sound clearly superior?

Now, that is the question. And what about video wise?

Furthermore, your Onkyo TX-NR1007 has the Burr-Brown PCM-1796A Dacs, which are excellent Dacs anyway. So, why not running your CD playback through the digital HDMI cable also? Or even from the digital coaxial cable for that matter?

I probably would use the HDMI.

See, just like I said; your Onkyo TX-NR1007 with it's nice Dacs,
is rendering the purchase of the Denon 3800 blu-ray disc player obsolete. ;)

Be happy with your Panny BD35, and use it as your main CD player through the digital HDMI output,
and up into your nice receiver, voila. :)
And besides, the 1007 has the VLSC circuitry for even a better sound, through the digital inputs.
Plus, with Audyssey MultEQ XT, you still gain further audio benefits, in your room.

Good night now,
Bob

Lordoftherigns, I was really cought off guard with your last post on the Panny BD60 as being a winner on any front. I am on the market now for a good Blu-Ray player and was looking at the Oppo and the Sony 5000ES as candidates. Can get a good deal on the Sony from the same retailer I got the Onkyo at. So now you got me looking at cheaper makes and models. Got some reading to do I guess.

Thanks.

Hi Kenny,

First, if you're into a Universal blu-ray player, the Oppo BDP-83 is a no-brainer.
And it is only $499. Just Google it to read several reviews; impressive to say the least.

Now, the Sony 5000ES, I'm sure is a very nice player, but at his price, is not competitive at all. Besides, the Oppo 83 will give you all you need at a fraction of it's price.

Finally, the Panasonic DMP-BD60 at only $299 list, is the best budget player right now on the market. The picture quality is excellent, and is easy in operation, plus more.
I highly recommend it. :) And the street price is even less.
* In the 'Sound and Vision Mag', September 2009 issue (page 49), the Panasonic DMP-BD60 was awarded a "Certification & Recommendation", and was the only one to get it, in comparison with the LG BD370 and the Samsung BD-P1600.
I've got that issue at home, but the review is not yet on their site.
Anyway, I'll give you here (line for line), the Bottom Line:

" Panasonic's DMP-BD60 is not only affordable; it offers great video performance and expanded multimedia capabilitiesby way of its USB port and SD Card slot. If you're looking for a basic, high-quality Blu-ray Disc player, the BD60 is your ticket. But minus Amazon VOD, its Viera Cast streaming suite comes up short as compared with the LG and Samsung players, which provide more ways to watch movies other than inserting physical media (so old-school!). If and when Panasonic issues a firmware update offering Amazon VOD, the DMP-BD60 will become the entry-level player to beat."
By Al Griffin.

** Kenny, I don't know what kind of deal you can get on the Sony 5000ES, sorry.
And please, do read & research; save yourself a bunch of money.

Onkyo after sales service and in general

Onkyo now has firmware updates for the X007 models.
Howdy guys (and girls?),

I sent Onkyo a little note earlier about after sales service in general. The reason why I did is that if dapack69 would not have wrote about the firmware update on this forum I or other Onkyo x007 owners on this forum would not have known unless they visited their site and landed on the Support/download page out of curriossity. I've been in sales all my life and if I learned one thing is that whatever pricing you sell your stuff at compared to your competition, the level of service one provides to their customers is worth GOLD!!!

Here is what I wrote to Onkyo;
Hello, I am the proud owner of a TX-NR3007. I learned that there was a firmware update for my receiver on your site through a member of the Audioholics Home Theater Forums. I registered my receiver and I am now a member of Club Onkyo. There are 2 things I would like to point out to Onkyo.
1- I would have liked Onkyo to advise me through e-mail or by other means of communication that there was a firmware update for my receiver instead of finding out about it thanks to a Audio/Video forum member.
2- I would also appreciate you list the fixes or changes that this firmware update addresses on the download site for the models affected.
I can appreciate the updates but it would be good for the Onkyo owners to decide if the updates are of value to them before they undergo the update and have the opportunity to decide for themselves. Also on my first point, would it not be of service to your loyal customers to be advised by Onkyo that there are updates instead of finding out either by mistake or through other owners or discussion boards? Isn't what the Club Onkyo is and should be all about?
Thank you.

I am hoping that perhaps this little note could make a diferrence in the future.

Just thought I'd share this with the forum members.
