Onkyo 876 HDMI Audio Problem

Hi,

I've got a problem with my Onkyo 876 receiver. The receiver appears to be unable to accept an HDMI audio signal. I've hooked up my Oppo 80 bluray player and have both the Video and Digital audio settings to HDMI 1. The Video comes through fine, no audio. I can pass an audio signal through a Coax or OPT setting with a separate cable. The same issue exists for my cable box and ROKU box. I have to pass the audio through a separate connection.

I've checked the cable and the Oppo by hooking an HDMI cable directly to the TV. Both Video and Audio work great. That indicates the problem is in the Onkyo 876.

Has anyone seen this before? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

I have read your manual, and you seem to have it set up correctly. I see nothing unusual in the set up.

Has this receiver always been this way, or did this just occur?

I think your receiver will need a new HDMI board. I hope it is under warranty as that will be costly.

The receiver has always been this way. I just assumed I was doing something wrong and I've never had the time to work on it. Finally, I purchased a new Oppo - 80 bluray player and decided to take a hard look at the setup.

I've determined that the problem is the Onkyo. I'm going to try to call customer service this weekend and see what their thoughts might be.

Thanks again for you comment!

This will seem utterly counter-intuitive, but set your HDMI audio to off.

Why does the choice seem so weird? "On" means that the audio is passed thru to your TV, so that you may listen to the TV speakers. You need it as off if you want to have your receiver powering your other speakers.

However, the off setting is the default. If you never touched a single setting, then yes there is something wrong. If you switched this setting at some point . . . well then, you know what to do.

Great suggestion. I did double check and it is set to off. Thanks again!
