onkyo 806 setup question (tv in stereo)

Im sure you will all roll your eyes when I ask this, but, is there a way to listen to TV in plain old 2.1 / 2.1 stereo thougth my receiver, and if so, what setting do I use?

Sometimes when I am watching the news or garbage on TV I want to reproduce the regular L&R stereo sount that would normally come out of my TV speakers through my receiver. Right now all I can do it get the vocals to come out of the center channel and the other speakers produce queit ambient tv noises. I have tried several settings and just cant get it.


If it matters my connection are

cable box --hdmi--> receiver --hdmi--> tv

What listening mode are you in?

Several cable channels are sending 5.1, so make sure the program your listening to is not 5.1

I am usually listening in TV/MOVIE mode. I have seen that many of the shows I am watching are in 5.1, but my TV is smart enough to make the sound 2.0 and come out of its left and right speakers, I hope the receiver can do the same regardless of what format the show audio is sent in.

Sometimes I miss the simple days of analog audio components.
