Onkyo 805 Owners....

Please help; I just switched my HK 7300 to the Onkyo 805 and now I read over on another forum about Onkyo receivers; specifically the 805... catching fire??? This has to be a joke; right? I have had mine for one week and tonight it is going into its 4th hour of consistent use... yes its hot... but OMG...there is NO SMOKE/FIRE! Certainly if this were true Onkyo would re-call these receivers. Not sure what to think??

Any ideas?

How much room do you guys suggest? Is one inch enough?

No way one inch is enough. One inch is not enough for pretty much any receiver out there. The Onkyo does run hotter than most, so I would give it a good deal of clearance. But it's certainly not going to catch on fire. What it will do is overheat and shut down if it doesn't have enough room to breath, and you could possibly do long term damage to the unit if it overheats.

People are blowing things out of proportion on the TX-SR805, which is probably why so many are opposed to buying and are settling for less for the same price with other brands when it isn't necessary. I would give it at least 4-5 inches.

I don't think I have more than 2" to give... Looks like i have to look into getting a fan....

BTW: Can you use the 12V trigger to run a fan? Maybe?

Give it 4-6 inches; you can rig a fan a million ways but if you give it room, it will be ok.

OK; Thanks guys... I have about 2 inches of room.... Probably going to buy some type of small, hopefully no noise fan... any ideas? Also, just to be sure; I wonder if there is a way to read the temp. of the Onkyo??

TX-SR805 -can't get Dolby digital -need help

I got my 805 about 3 weeks ago and all has been fine until the other day while watching a movie I found it would not switch to Dolby Digital. I checked all of my settings and all looks good as far as I can tell. When I first start the DVD player the reciever is set to dolby digital then when movie starts it will go to stereo and sometimes back to dolby then ends up at stereo. I cannot force it back to dolby digital at all. I tried a different DVD player and same thing happens. I checked connections and tried different DVDs also. Can any one help me?

Just wondering.... have you checked all your connections? Are all cables/wires good and connected tight?

It sounds like you need to select the Dolby Digital soundtrack on the DVD itself. Go into "set up" or "languages" on the disc's menu. Some movies default to pro-logic II and/or Stereo. This does not sound like a receiver issue.

Make sure that the HDMI Audio Out in the hardware menu ( I think it is in the hardware menu) is set to "off" or "no" unless you use the tv speakers for audio output.
