I recently hooked up a Motorola DVR cable box to my Onkyo 702 reciever using optical audio. I worked fine for a while with great dolby digital 5.1 sound on all the HD channels(despite a clicking sound from the reciever when I switched channels while it detected if it was a digital signal or analog). I was trying to adjust some reciever settings and now have no sound at all. lesson...if it aint broke... Any ideas?

Check the input settings settings for the optical port the cable box is connected to. Make sure the optical connections are snug.

I've owned a few Onkyo receivers and not one of them has made a clicking sound during detection of digital vs analog. That sounds suspect to me and may indicate a fault.

You should check:
- DVR is set to output Dolby Digital.
- Digital input assignments. Is the optical input assigned to the input to which the dvr is connected?
- 'Auto' setting for the digital input.

I found the problem. It was a simple setting that I think my three year old must have toggled by mistake. Thanks for you help.
