Onkyo 606 Vs 607 and 706 Vs 707

I am looking a quick understanding of what one gains from upgrading between the 6xx and 7xx series of recievers and what the new 07 vs older 06 gains in value. I have a friend who is eyeing all 4 of these recievers and I have read through the descriptions on each. The only item I could see is the following.

6xx vs 7xx - you get the extra 10 watts per channel and better crossover control for the speakers.

x06 vs x07 - you get nothing that really matters.

I did not see anything about On-Screen display.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the 07 also adds Dolby PLIIz and Audyssey DSX which most people don't care about either.

The 7 series has pre-outs.

6xx vs 7xx - you get the extra 10 watts per channel and better crossover control for the speakers.

With the 70XYou get the extra 10 watts and preouts so that you can add an external amp later, and more/better Audyessy functions. I can't speak to the crossover points but the crossover points can be set individual on my 606 but it's possible there are more crossover point options on the 707 - I just don't know. There maybe other feature differences.

x06 vs x07 - you get nothing that really matters.

That depends on what matters to you.

Keep in mind that the 607 is available as low as $330 refurbished and the 707 $500 refurbished. If I had it to do over again I'd spend the extra $200 for the added Audyessy functionality and better controls.

Also both the 607 and 707 are nearing becoming last year's models so additional discounts may (or may not) be coming. The upcoming 608.

For what it's worth I have the 607 and in hindsight I'd of spent the extra 150-200 for a 707 for the pre-outs. However, I will never regret my 607 because it's a beast for 350$ shipped.

How do you think the Onkyos do with a 4 ohm load?

I have used the Audessy in a car application and the differance was amazing. How much impact could it have in a home environment?
