Just an update : After much thought, I ordered an Onkyo 876. I should get it in the next few days. People, I'm upgrading from a Yamaha RXV-450. :D

Congrats.

words of warning: its big, its heavy, and it'll run warm. You might want to run a fan or two, as I've heard the Reon chip gets hot, and IIRC its placed near the rear...

lot of receiver for the money.

In South Africa the prices are a little wonky. An 876 retails are R26990.00. Now that is a HECK of a lot of money. If I convert that figure into dollars, it amounts to $2,480.82.

The Denon 4308 receiver is R41800.00. That is $3,846 ! This price is before the exchange rate increase so I would need to add an additional 15-20% on top of that price.

Now I know that the 4308 does not cost that much in the US. Just goes to show how ridiculous the prices are over here. Just thought I would share that with you guys. :)

Yeah, you know I'm looking forward to getting this receiver. All this time I'm debating whether Burr Brown dacs are going to make a difference well I would rather have the Burr Brown and the audyssey MultXT than not have them. We only live once right ?

Next is a Parasound 5250 power amp. :D

If you know that you're going to get a separate amp anyway, why not just get the amp and a pre/pro now?
Because, in my opinion, a mid to high-end receiver is simply a better investment.

No, I'm talking about Denon's flagship receiver but the 876 would rate as an upper-end receiver and it's simply more economical for me to put my money in a receiver with the latest technology, one that offers me an abundance of HDMI inputs and good quality video scaling.

Most processors I know cost a heck of a lot more than most receivers and still lack the latest technology and functions available. Another reason is that I simply can't afford a preamp that offers the latest HD audio formats and sufficient HDMI inputs as well as the latest and greatest features.

I know that Emotiva are going to release an affordable processor that has these functions at a ridiculous price of $699 (I think) but I've just about had it with importing. I imported dual MFW-15 subwoofers a few months back. Now that was a very stressful process.

Unfortunately for me, processors or preamps that offer the same level of functionality cost a whole lot more than the 876. I just feel that a high-end receiver is more economical and money better spent.
