Two days ago I purchased an Onkyo SR601. Today I came home from work and my wife had been watching tv and she said the remote and front panel buttons were not working. After pushing every button on both the remote and the front panel I came to the same conclusion. None of the buttons or volume control would work. The receiver was stuck on at a volume level of 54. The power button wouldn't even turn it off. After giving up and just unplugging it to turn it off and then plugging it back in, it worked just fine. I am wondering what may have caused this and is this something that will reoccur. If it is going to be a problem I will just take it back. I just don't want to take it back and have them tell me it isn't broken.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Have you given it ample space for cooling?

I have the 701 and it throws out the heat hardcore...

Could have made it lock up...

Alot of people don't read thoroughly enough but the manual for mine states a minimum of 8 inches clearance on top!

that is actually very common of any computer controlled device that has not had a good break in period. The newer DTS receivers are completely IC computer chip controlled and they will tend to lock up, more ofter when they are new. In your onkyo manual you will see a section called reseting the unit. Read that and use the proceedure when it locks up, this will thus reset the microprocessor. Probably won't happen again and your wife may have pushed too many buttons at one time
