One thing Obama has helped...

... the firearms industry. If any of you are firearm enthusiasts, you know all too well that you basically can't get anything anymore. Visit any sight for parts, ammo, or magazines and what do you see... "out of stock."

Ironic that someone who is a rabid gun control advocate created more new gun owners than any other time in recent history.

These kinds of supply and demand issues bring out the worst and best in free market business. The local Walmart not to far from my house usually had these Federal 100 round value packs of 223 ammo for about $40. Now, you can't find them anywhere. I finally asked the one guy what the deal was and he told me that a couple of the local shops send someone to all the local Walmarts literally 2 times a day, everyday, to check for new ammo shipments and then buy everything they can. Why? Because they resell it at a huge mark up. Sure enough, I went into the shop that the guy told me about and they were basically dumping the 100 round boxes into ammo cans and selling the 1000 count ammo boxes for $624.99. I've spend several thousand dollars with them over the years and was none to happy. I let them know that I fully support their right to do that kind of business, but I also let them know that I would never spend another dime in their shop again. I cancelled my current order for a rifle with them as well.

Penny-wise, pound foolish.

I hope that we never elect a president that is a rabid A/V control advocate.

Obama announced international tax reform which likely means prices for all the stuff made in China will go up. That could be construed as rabid A/V control :D

I'm not opposed to this as I don't mind paying a little more for stuff made by U.S. workers. And it's possible to make affordable, quality products in the U.S. as Orb, Ascend and several others have proved.

As for guns, how about making your own rounds? I don't what's involved, but it looks like an interesting hobby.

I have a friend who's looking into this, but now the brass (or the sources of it) are looking like it's about to get some control put on it.

Exactly. Good luck finding the reloading stuff... not just the bullet components but even the dies.

I used to reload quite a bit when I used to shoot competively in college. Back then, I shot about 15 to 20K rounds a year if I remember right. Quality brass and all the things needed were very easily had for very good prices. That's the past.

Another thing to think about... you really have to know what you're doing. You really need to pay attentiion and have some skill and dedication to the craft. It's not just loading cases and cranking a lever like a lot of people will have you believe. Just a small mistake can easily cause a major incident... especially in rifle cartridges. About a year or so ago I saw a guy literally blow the entire top surface of his upper into shrapnel from a bad round. The mag literally fragmented and blew out the magwell. And think about this... even if you don't get hurt or the damage isn't horribly severe, you won't be able to get any replacement parts. Right now, you can't even find a bolt carrier group for an AR. They're almost impossible to get right now let alone another upper.
