A NAD + PSB system, since PSB is owned by the same company as NAD iirc.

I'm not sure why you want to do this though.
No reason to do this, but in this light you could do Denon or Marantz and B&W as well (all D&M holdings).

I think electronics from one, speakers from another is a better goal.

Yeah matched electronics is certainly nice although I hold no requirement for it when I'm building a system. Simplifies remotes though.

I agree if I were matching I'd go for two, maybe three brands. One for electronics, one for speakers and possibly another for subwoofer (depending on the speaker brand).

Well, you could go all Emotiva. :) They recently got into the speaker and sub market, and have gotten excellent reviews. They are already known for making high quality electronics, so it's definately an option, and it can be done with your $3,000 budget. :D

Personally, I think you'd have better luck with a 2 brand system. One brand for the speakers, the other for the electronics. Just becuase a speaker has Rega stamped on it doesn't make it a good speaker. Maybe, you won't care for the "British" sound. I'd revisit your approach on this.
I agree. My Stereo Review education in the '80's taught me to buy speakers from a speaker company, not the electronics + speaker companies.

Actually, the Rotel CD player + integrated amp combo ("the" not "a" because AFAIK they only make one of each) with B&W 683s is one of the systems I have considered, and the basis of my $3K price point.

But you want more than 60w per channel, don't you?;)

No, I don't. My current system has 14 watts/ch into 8 ohms (increasing to a whopping 20 watts at 4 ohms) and is more than enough in my room. (At 89 dB, my present speakers are not particularly efficient, either.)

Mines just a cut above your's for output. 25 watts per channel (6 ohms) 90 dB speakers, very even loaded.:D

Not all one brand, but you know how I feel about that. No all one brand system in the $200 bracket is going to satisfy me.;)

Sounds like a tube amp.

Another system I have considered is a pair of powered 8" studio monitors connected directly to a CD player (I never adjust volume once I have it set where I like it.) The simplicity of this appeals to me, and the sound can be excellent.

If you're still looking for a one brand system, Vortex has a Bose Lifestyle 12 that he'll probably sell to you! :D

NO POINT! I can't stress this enough. There is no point in doing this unless there is a certain picky wife or girlfriend. And if it's that, it's not hard to explain why it's not cost effective or even good to do crazy stuff like this.:D
Just for the record - I agree completely with Seth=L on this (and all the suggestions that follow).

Joe Schmoe - a lot of the ID companies offer electronic components that they sell to go with their speakers. Would you consider that to be "one company"?

Nope. Not unless they make them.:D
