Tonight it's Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds...a wonderful double CD, Abattoir Blues and the Lyre of Orpheus. This really IS 2 different CDs packaged in one box. Right now I'm on the Lyre, which is quieter, moodier but with Cave's patented poetic, metaphysical, beatnik weirdness. Abattoir is a harder rocker, but just as literate and just as original. I highly recommend this set. Cave's music is not difficult to listen to, but definitely demands careful listening since there's really a lot happening in the lyrics. He's as much a poet as a songwriter and deserves wider recognition.

This is excellent stuff
Some of Nick Cave's songs are outright scary, if you really pay attention to the lyrics, perhaps it's his former heroin addiction coming through sometimes

Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks" on vinyl. This double album set is over 25 years old and it still looks and plays like mint.

The Smiths "The Sound Of The miths" on CD...

It's not J-Z but then again ... what is? :D

Actually this is pretty cool. It's a pretty clean playing record and I might actually read the play. Even though I don't know the story and can't understand the words, I'm diggin' the angst of the singers/characters. There's something about suffering in general that works for me ... the suffering of others of course. ;)

You didn't strike me as a classical music lover, but neither am I. Got turned on to some cello CD's and I am getting into this. I think classic music is a great way to check your systems capability. That's where you find out if you got good speakers or great speakers.
Anyway I am listening to:
"Bach-Six Suites for Cello
by Janos Starker and I am enjoing it

It's the edge in his voice and lyrics that makes his stuff so good. A lot of his music is close to an accompanied beatnik rap from the 1950's. The drummer almost sounds like he's doing bongo drums sometimes. He combines irreverence and religiosity and a literate approach to poetry like no other performer I know of.

Right now I am on Steve Earle's "Townes". A major departure from Earle's usual albums that are entirely his, this is a full cd of covers of Townes Van Zant. It has its moments where it's quite good. I enjoy the Steve Earle that has gotten old, fat, doesn't care what he looks like, moved to Greenwich Village and has a gorgeous wife (country singer Allison Moorer) and a new baby. It beats the heck out of multiple addictions and jail.

You're 100% correct on all counts. I'm sort of discovering classical music and it will definitely tell the tale on a speakers capability. I recently had Jostenmeat explain how that worked and why TLS isn't crazy ... not that there was ever a doubt. :D

BTW, I'm only all over the classical stuff because I can get the vinyl dirt cheap, record players are falling out of the sky and I would like to be able to identify some of the more common stuff when I hear it like I had class.
