I have a Yamaha receiver in my living room and want to use the zone 2 capabilities for speakers on my porch.

My current set up in the living room has amps with the 12v trigger going to Amps that power the home theater. Is there a way that I can set it up so that the trigger does not turn on the amps when I just want to use zone 2? The receiver is the RX-V565.

Can I install a switch on the trigger cable? If so, where would I find such a thing? Did not find one at Parts Plus, but that does not mean there is not one.... or do I have to make it. Not scared to do that.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Is the 12V trigger assignable? I don't think it is, but you need to read the manual to make sure. You won't find a ready made switch for this but it takes four parts- a small box to house it, the switch and two 3.5mm jacks. It's not high current or load-dependent and as long as +/- are consistent, it won't hurt anything. The only thing that's close to pre-made and would work is an A/B switch for guitar effects but you would need 2 3.5mm-1/4" plug adapters and it would come to about $30, which is excessive, IMO. Radio Shack has all of the parts you need.

What will a switch on the trigger cable do for you that the power switch on the amp won’t?

Depends on how accessible the power switch is.

Thanks for the info. I have a salamander rack with the perforated doors. I am going to try to make the switch and install it on the bottom side of top. I have 3 amps... and turning them off would not be a problem, just looking to do it fast with one easy trigger.

Thanks for the info.
