On wall speaker conversion.

Well this maybe not what most would consider doing but I thought I would try.
I needed on wall speaker and couldn't find a set for under $1000.
The speakers are 99% are used for home theater.
So I had an old set of energy tower speakers cf I think.
The existing Energy speakers were 15" deep ( to big to hang on wall) so I dismantled the speaker to see what space was needed.
I quickly realized the extra space was completely filled with insulation and very little room inside.
So there I went and cut them down to 6".
I made sure not cutting bracing and re glued back. I placed insulation back with thinner but same air space inside as it was before.
They sound great,
The setup is I use as my main TV.
Polk audio Lsim706 centre
Energy fronts.
Fluance bipole rears.
Dayton 12" sub.
Yamaha receiver.
Epson 6030 projector.
4k screen.

They sound very good, I don't notice any difference in sound from before the mod.
I am very pleased with how they turned out.

My guess would be that you might have lost some of the low end on the speakers but you are using a sub that would make that irrelevant. Also the change might effect their power handling but the receiver isn't going to pump out near enough for you to worry about it.

If you are happy with the results that is what matters most!! *two thumbs way up*

I may have lost a bit of the bass but my sub more then makes up for it.
Having them mounted at ear level made a huge difference. So far very happy with the sound.
