Supposedly JP Morgan and BofA both denied him accounts but they deny it's because of political belief. I like the asshole customer explanation (or perhaps he had expected some sort of loan service to with the account).
Loan denial makes the most sense.

And what 's coming next week or month, another million newly discovered docs?
Good guess, but there are now 5.2 million documents that still need to be reviewed:

>>>The Justice Department is seeking to enlist about 400 lawyers to review roughly 5.2 million pages of Epstein files documents, an effort that is drawing in prosecutors who work on national security and criminal cases, and in U.S. attorneys’ offices in New York and Florida, according to people familiar with the matter.

The number of documents represents a more precise, and potentially much larger, figure than previous estimates provided by the department.<<<

It's not clear if the 5.2 million number includes newly discovered documents, or if these have been under review all along.

Speaking of lots of work for lawyers, here's an interesting take on Trump's lawsuit against the BBC for defamation.

As a bonus, there's the legal jeopardy that Karoline Leavitt could find herself in for actually defaming the BBC. As indicated in the linked piece, the Beeb will probably let it go. But, if things get heated, one never knows...

Ask them, BBC, not to let it go but lightspeed ahead. :D
Even if it doesn't get close to trial, it will be a lesson for those inner circle idiots.

The 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index ranks Venezuela as one of the most corrupt countries on the planet. Somalia and South Sudan are the only countries with a worse rating (it's hard to imagine a country that's worse than Somalia, but I guess it's possible).

It seems to me one could argue corruption as a factor both for and against capturing Maduro.

My impression (which is not based on any special insight or knowledge) is that the corruption in Venezuela permeates almost every aspect of the government, military, law inforcement, and government-run businesses. Trump's statements during the news conference today seemed a bit simplistic and naive.

I wouldn't wanna argue Maduro is bad. He is, but now the US will be running the Venzuelan transition for the meantime so I assume their natural resources are part of the deal. I see boats being blown up. Sure, they probably were drug runners, but what he hell does it have to do with American security? truck if I know. (There might be a genuine reason.) I find it rather sad with the big patriotic speech on your son died a hero for America and it turns out the damn thing was for oil more than anything else. Sounds better to the parents anyway. :(

I think corruption is incidental, rather than offering any kind of justification. Regardless of how foul a character Maduro might be, the US does not have law enforcement jurisdiction within the borders of Venezuela.

We know that Trump doesn't really care about drug running, after pardoning Juan Hernández. I can only surmise that controlling Venezuela's oil is the main reason, coupled with stepping on China's d!ck.

See how this kind of adventurism can escalate? She's not only Stephen Miller's wife, she sits on the Presidents' Intelligence Advisory Board.

The ONLY reason why Trump captured Maduro is to gain control of the oil fields and he used the guise of narco-terrorism to legitimize it. Fact is narco-terrorsism is a "trumped" up charge which does not exist in the international court of law. On further reports, very little drugs comes out of Venezuela (and Columbia for that matter) compared to other countries such as Mexico. So the POTUS (which I refer to as piece of sh?t of the US which I will continue to use in lower case to represent that) has broken international law and should he should be prosecuted as an international criminal. He is no better than Putin. For those of you who want to hide behind the words and lies of "freedom and democracy", why doesn't Trump go into Somalia and South Sudan? The only answer I can come up with is that these countries have very little natural resources that the US could exploit in its favor. Trump is Putin.

Maybe I/we shouldn't be dismissive of Trump's bluster over Greenland.

I highly doubt that. I havent given up faith on the majority of the US people. Its mostly the uneducated (those who dont look outside of their borders to see whats going on in the world) and those few who stand to gain finiancially from potus's policies that support that POS.

We have I'm fairly sure a majority of people opposing his actions, but with the elected/supporting elected "republicans" and SCOTUS support for the self appointed dictator....I think the majority of citizens aren't in agreement but not in charge of the controls at least until the next electiion, and that is in danger now, too.

Well Maduro was caught, so that confirms it was about the oil and natural resources all along. ;)
It's not like Trump hid the fact that he wanted Venezuela's oil... public statements on the topic in 2023!

Part of the problem for Trump has been that none of the US Oil companies are interested in the risk involved in building infrastructure in Venezuela... to easy for an organised guerilla force to blow up flammable installations!

So for there to be any commercial interest, you first need stability... kidnapping Maduro just provides an opportunity for his VP to step up - the cabinet, government, military etc... are all still in place.

Not clear as to what kidnapping Maduro achieves - other than giving Trump another excuse to bloviate
