America is a science superpower, but it won't continue to be, if Trump can help it.

I'm genuinely surprised that we're still ranked as a super power in academics, considering the way the education system has fallen off. We're doing it through sheer numbers, with the addition of immigrants who may/may not have come here for school and stayed.

I'm a bit more optimistic WRT "if Trump can help it". He'll be gone, eventually.

Basically the MAGA sentiments were always in you though. The escalation etc. Trump's abrasive tone. Which reminds me. My arch enemy here. After I pointed out his primary reason for voting for Trump (to see heads explode), that was the last time he came here hehehe. Great tastes in attributes, Republican gangsters. ;)
I disagree. Harris presented her candidacy as more or less a continuation of Biden's policies. Many of my D voting friends were very disenchanted with Biden by the time Harris got crowned as Biden's successor. Some even called her the bobble head. They really wanted a proper primary with other choices, hence they simply sat out the election. So are many Independents who lean left.

Now the D party is leaderless and clueless. They got out maneuvered (steam rolled) by the R's in this CR budget battle. Old farts like Schumer is still fighting with yesterday's tactics. The party needs a full top down overhaul, old farts pushed out. The middle of the road, wishy washy, squishy policies need to be replaced with sharp, clear, well defined policies presented in bullet points and simple language.

Pretty much. Do you believe it’s ok for people to freeze and starve in the streets, or no? It’s really that simple for the most part.

Read what I said. It had nothing to do with the '24 election but what animated MAGA especially during 2016-21.

Particularly Trumps first term. If I were to make a list of traits that appealed to MAGA, it might look something like this LOL.

1. Being deplorable

2. Pro-America
3. Anti-establishment

She seemed a continuation until she actually started campaigning, with "The first thing I plan to do..." and other ideas that were the opposite of what Biden said about the Border, crime, etc. Before, she was asked if she would do anything differently and she said No.

Someone better needs to step forward and run- we need better candidates.

The Elephants in the room WRT people living in the streets: poorly educated and mentally ill. At least here in the Milwaukee area- it's not being handled well.

I don’t know of many (if any) cities in the USA that treat their most vulnerable residents like human beings vs trash to be disposed of.

Part of the problem here, is the fact that the city does have places for homeless people to stay, but they often don't want to go there. I'm seeing more people who clearly live in their cars lately, but it can't be said that the city doesn't do anything or that they don't try. MKE has a bad reputation WRT the Police, but it's not accurate universally, nor are the officers uncaring- I started to listen to a police scanner app because sirens and activity was increasing not far from my house, so I wanted to know if they were getting much closer. That has happened a few times and a chase involving armed carjackers ended directly in front of my house. But the point is, when I'm listening, I hear interactions with homeless, mentally ill and all kinds of people, without the anger, condescention or lack of caring that people say is typical of that department.

MKE has a hard time with overspending on things it doesn't need and the people don't necessarily want. The things the people want and need- crickets.

It’s a problem that simply requires solutions on a national scale to fix. Minneapolis can’t do it alone. We need to be better as a country.

Any republican who goes against Trump is likely to face a primary challenge:

>>>President Donald Trump had urged Republicans to support the resolution and called for a primary challenge to Massie for his opposition to the legislation.<<< (emphasis added)

https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/gop-funding-bill-shutdown-democrats-vote-b2713049.html

This is, of course, how Trump has effectively gained control of both the executive and legislative branches of the federal government. Unfortunately, the checks and balances envisioned by those who drafted the Constitution have not been effective.

I hate to say it, but I've lost confidence in the Constitution.
Oh hey, look, a couple Republicans grew themselves little tiny balls.

>>>The Republican chairs of the House and Senate Armed Services committees issued a joint statement on Wednesday criticizing the idea of the U.S. drastically changing its military combatant command structure, saying they “will not accept” those changes without coordination with Congress and other agencies.

The statement marks one of the first major instances of Republican lawmakers pushing back on President Trump in his second term.<<<

My mistake. I’m in the DC area, which has its own problems.
MSP if we're doing the urban airport code thing :) Yours is DCA/BWI/IAD? Airport codes for areas someone lives in has always struck me as odd....but I was in an industry where specific airport codes mattered vs referring to the nearby metro area :)

Yeah, I’ve got a nice selection of airports :D DCA is preferred since it’s an easy trip on the Metro train here. I can even walk to the Metro station from my home, so fairly convenient.

Back in the day with manual guides only you needed to know your airport codes and limitations as a transfer point for a given area....no computers to help out. The OAG and ACG were our bibles....
